Nope, tis not a new record, but a Zander. You can tell from the body of the fish. (and also the guy's straight brim 70 year old guy hat)

Amazing isn't it? Put on 2 lbs in a week of rumors, would have thought it would have at least been pushing 25. LOL!

And to think a boat load of Zander fry almost went into Devils Lake.

With all the flooding in the James River basin the past couple of years, I wouldn't be a darn bit surprised if zander haven't made their way out of Spiritwood Lake by now.

Are there even any zander left in spiritwood lake?  when was the last time one was officially caught in ND.

I don't think they can get that big here in the US anyway, maybe up in a canadian lake, but even in canada their winters get too cold and would all but stop a zanders metabolism for 6 months out of the year.  Europe has the cooler average than we do and their lakes stay in the optimal growing temp range for their zander & pike, mild winters and cool summers.

There was a Zander caught in Spiritwood Lake 2-3 years ago. Why didn't they opt to put smallmouth bass in Devils Lake vs. white bass??
