What do you think would kick more, ruger m77 300 win mag or a tikka t3 lite in 7mm? I have the ruger 300 but dont like the rifle. want to get a tikka but I think the 300 would kick like a mule. any thoughts? would perfer less recoil
Where's my bobber?

Most of the 300 win mags that I have shot kick like mules, however, they had crap for recoil pads, so im thinking a good recoil pad would take care of some of that kicking. I shoot a 7mm remington and a 7mm Ultra, both in a 700 series and neither kick too bad. Went with boyd thumbhole stocks on both gun and the ultra now kicks similar to a 25-06.

I have a Tikka T3- 300WSM and I don't think the recoil is bad at all, especially while hunting. Target shooting still isn't  that bad either in my opinion.

I would compare the weights of both rifles and recoil pads that they have. In my experience a 7 mag is a swift kick where the 300 mag is more like a hard push if that makes sense.

My brother has the Tikka T3 300WSM. By the time he had worked up a load for it he had a nasty bruise on his shoulder. He took it to the best gunsmiths locally and had it muzzle braked and a recoil pad put on; say it shoots more like a 243 now. He claims 1 shot kills on 3 elk and 1 bear in 3 years.
Elk hunting at 9000 ft is easy. Dragging that elk out at 9000 ft is hard!

The  300 will have approximately 15 % more felt recoil with comparable loads in rifles of the same weight

You can install your own recoil pads, its really easy. Ive seen them go from anywhere from 10 bucks upto 50.

I own a Rem 7mm Mag had it cut to fit me ( short arms) and had a Pachmyar Decelorator pad installed.
It has now no more recoil than a 30-30.

When I was younger I used to think I was superman, lifting large stones and leaping over tall buildings and the likes.
Now I know better I just go fishing for fun.

Limbsaver.  HEARING PROTECTION X2 from the bench.

If you're not going to ear up when hunting, at least plug your off side ear with a foamie.  The gun side is somewhat "protected" by the "Shadow Effect".

Oh, IMHO, no difference in kick.  You're going to get the hell whomped out of you with either cartridge.  You'll suck it up, chamber another round and inwardly sneer at the effeminates with their '08s and such.

If I had to pick a new 7mm cartridge, it would be the -08 for me! Or maybe WSM...
