I'm not for abortion but that should be a long pricey battle against federal laws.  Open you pockets a little wider taxpayers.

What a waste of ND tax payer dollars. Pretty personal issue that the government should keep their nose out of. Amazing

We are up in arms that Bloomer said we are split on gun rights but we are also up in arms by requiring those that want to take a known living person's life to do so out of state. I don't get it.

This is great news as far as Im concerned. I dont mind the extra $10 i might pay extra in taxes to do what is right. I hope he gets to the white house and ends abortion and same sex marriage completely. Has anyone watched  The BIble series on the History channel the last few weeks? If we as country keep heading down the road we are currently on, we are all f'd.

I think most are on the same page about this, or at least I hope. Aborting kids, babys embryos, fetuses, unruly teenagers whatever is horrible no matter how a person looks at it. However a lot of this looks like it's just a open door for more polititians and lawyers to cash in more taxpayer money. The biggest problem with Roe v Wade is that someone thought it had to exist as a feferal law in the first place. The thing that creeps me out is that even if it was repealed I think it would be done so on the grounds that it would need to be replaced by something. It shouldn't exist in the forst place. Everytime someone dosent get their way they just keep whining to whichever royal highness at the federal to do something about it. This and many other moral issues should be dealt with by the people of every state seperately, then left alone. It may be voted on every election who cares but at least it is not a faceless giant stomping on a states right to decide for itself.

Mr. Sandstrom, you are dealing with a bit of an intellect.  Well, at least I can spell "intellect" correctly.  I have spent plenty of years in school, which by  no means, entitles me to be considered an "intellect."  I do, however, know that there are some women, families, and even children that don't warrant your or anyone's opinion, especially some suit in the capital, to determine what's right for them.  You want to walk the line between member and moderator.  Instead, why don't you pick one and be happy with it.

Gun bans, soda bans, abortion bans. This is America...home of the FREE...this law is unconstitutional and will only cost us taxpayers money. I am not for abortion, but no one should be told what they can and cannot do with his/her own body...END OF STORY

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed

Go afield with a good attitude, with respect for the wildlife you hunt and for the forest and fields in which you walk.  Immerse yourself in the outdoor experience. It will cleanse your soul and make you a better person. -Fred Bear-

I think it is great that North Dakota for once takes a stand and does what the majority of it's people believe in (yes thats right if you believe in abortion and live in ND you are the minority).  Now we just have to pass gun rights laws, illegal alien deportation laws, stricter welfare/food stamp laws and lower taxes (especially property tax).  Then all ND citizens can all at once raise there middle finger at D.C. and all corrupt liberal states.  Tell them they can all kiss are behinds.

There is zero middle ground on this issue (to the zealots on either side).

Pro-Life means abortion is NEVER acceptable.  Not if the life of the Mother is in danger.  Not if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.  It can NEVER be acceptable to arbitrarily terminate a life.  All is God's Will.  Any other view is hypocritical.

Pro Choice means abortion with little or no restrictions.  Something we don't have now.

What we currently have is something in between.  That's the Law of the Land post-Roe v Wade.

The Bills signed into Law today are designed to move the line.  That's all it is.  The only part that bothers me a little bit is that North Dakota Taxpayers get to finance the fight.

I'm also a bit perplexed that our Legislature that cares so deeply about the unborn doesn't seem to care a whole lot about kids after they are born.  That's kind oif a puzzler.

a beating heart does not supply an organism with conscious thought, emotion, pain or self awareness. By the new laws an unconscious brain dead severely deformed fetus that may even pose risk the the health or the life of the mother has to be carried full term and nurtured by the parents and tax payers even though its a brain dead piece of meat so long as it has a beating heart.

I think you are right about the minority and majority. Although I'm not so sure a majority are glad he signed them. I think a lot more people would be happy if the state took up a few of the other issues in your post before they went at this one. If the state is going to blindly throw money at stuff why not education first?

just gonna get worse from here on out. whether right or wrong(our opinions) dont matter. when you tell people what they can do with their own body is where i draw the line. just gonna be more and more of it. i dont believe i should have to wear a seatbelt but guess what they dont care. kids dont wear them in a school bus but at 30yrs old i have to in my truck? seems odd doesnt it. i cant smoke 20ft within a doorway outside now either. might as well not be able to smoke in public like california. cant have pop in schools either now. its getting ridiculous.

Riggen, by passing these the one thing you won't be seeing are lower property taxes.  They're gonna need those dollars to pay for the lawyers to defend these bills and to pay for the additional unwanted kids you're making these people have.  If you're not willing to pay the cost, then don't make the laws.  One requires the other.

This is another way to chase young people with a mind out of North Dakota.  Those dipshit morons in the legislature need to be removed but instead you have morons who keep voting them in.  My fiance and I are probably going to need to use some type of invetro therapy in order to have a child one day, and that is just one of the things outlawed in these bills.  They're going after stem cells too - what happens when you get cancer one day and need a new type of therapy to survive?  Better fork over the gas money to drive to Rochester or another hospital out of state.  Who has the right to tell a person what to do with their body?  If they need an abortion for one reason or another, who am I to tell them they can or cannot?  Hypocritical assholes - each one of them.  Let's call each other conservatives because we believe government shouldn't be involved but then we vote to involve government into a woman's body.  I will never vote for another republican in my life after today - will not happen.  Let's waste our money on another lawsuit on something that has been settled for 40 years rather than build  bridges/roads/infrastructure in the state. There are elements to this debate that never get mentioned but have great consequences - sometimes lifelong consequences for the scared kids that get one.

A significant number of women who had abortions when they were pretty much children themselves now regret it as the worst thing they ever did. I know two women in my life that carry the regret of having one and wish they could undo it.

But then again - it's just a cluster of cells... not really a baby. Those women are haunted for silly reasons. They should think of it as having had a pesky mole removed, right?

Abortions are a nasty deal and I understand the horror/drama behind being motivated to have one. I agree with the others - we should fight hard to remove the need to ever had to decide by looking at as many ways as possible to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Nobody wins in an abortion.

No, you just see it differently.  You think its controlling the rights of a person to do what they want with their own body.  I believe that abortion is the "act of control" by killing another individual that has no say.  Making a law against abortion does not control what people want to do with their own body.  It protects the  innocent from murder and the control of the murderer.

It's not an individual and it's not murder.  Once I see pregnant women who have either smoked or drank while pregnant get strung up on attempted murder charges (assuming they gave birth to something with a heartbeat), I'll start agreeing with you.

Very good point.  I'm having trouble reconciling that with the fact that the very people who drafted these Bills are also vehemently OPPOSED to Birth Control and any Education that teaches anything but abstinence.
