The last few times out on the water I've noticed a small rainbow slick in the water behind my boat.  At first I thought is was from excess gas that spills out when i fill my boat up but after to day I'm not so sure?  I thought it could possible be a cracked line but then a buddy mentioned it could be the lower unit seal?  Any of you experts out there have any ideas?

I am no expert but I agree with your buddy.   The new, tough fishing line is also tough on seals.  Mine did the exact same thing, I noticed the film and went in to check it out. There was fireline around my prop and my seal was leaking.

Lower unit seal.  Same prob this summer for me.  About 300 bones and a pressure check you'll be as good as new.

YES, I am that foolish!

If your having problems with your lower unit seal leaking then maybe you should lay off oily foods. haha  (sorry, couldn't resist!)

check your lower unit lube.  if it is milky change your seal and fluid right away.  if it is still full and clean could be dripping  fuel.  if it is the lower unit, do not use it until it is fixed as those babies are expensive to fix once damaged.

I was having the same problem this spring.  Some idiot didn't put on (or at least tighten) the oil cap off the old 4-stroke and she was throwing oil up into the engine cowling which eventually ended up in the water.

Put the cap on, scrubbed the motor and haven't seen it since.

Also punished my mechanic by making him drink Busch Lite one evening.

Ha ha,   That will just make him want to not check other stuff on your motor so you keep coming back to him.   Free beer is your problem.       Try making him drink wisky  and see if that helps.

It could be any of the above.  But I'd sure clean it all up and run it to check all the little leaks that could happen before I tore into the lower.  You shouldn't spill that much fuel when filling it so I'd check the fuel line connection at the motor first as already mentioned.  If you're spilling that much fuel, stop it, fuel is expensive and not good for the fish.

Sure they're invincible, never break down, last forever, don't have to maintain them.  Stupid comment to someone looking for advice IMO.

I wonder exactly how a glass boat of any type would prevent an oil leak on a motor, either 4-S or 2-S?

Man, if it could do that I may just have to get me a disguise and buy one of them sparkly floaters.

Thats OK, I have a new net. I suppose I could have given it to you? I noticed you didn't have one in your boat. I suppose you have to catch fish first?

Hey fellas, there is only 100 spots left for the Mobridge icefishing tourney in January. Better get yours in. This tournament is awesome and is cut off at 400. I have fished this thing twice and have always had a great time. My pard and I took second in big fish last year. They are giving away over $90k in cash and prizes. Luv, Rainbow flat fish, get in it.
