Question for you knowledgable Chevy truck guys

So last year I bought a 2007 Chevy truck with a 5.3L engine with around 20,000 miles on it. It was due for an oil change shortly after I brought it home so I took it to a local dealer. A couple of weeks after the oil change I checked the level and found it to be about an inch above the full mark. I drained about 3/4 of a quart to get it down to the proper mark on the dipstick. I just chalked it up to a mistake by someone and decided I better check next time. Well yesterday the same thing happened when I had the oil changed. I got the attention of the service manager and he confirmed that the oil level was indeed too full and we drained some oil out so the proper level was reached on the dipstick. Here are my thoughts on the possibilities. Maybe the dipstick was exchanged with an improper one before I bought the truck or the dipstick was manufactured improperly. I will have to check the for the proper part # for the truck. I was also wondering if there could have been a change in production specs for the oil capacity sometime during manufacture. Oh, I almost forgot, the technician that performed the oil change said they had also seen that situation on a truck the previous week. Anyone have a thought as to what is going on here?

SNOW,

Long shot here but isn't there an oil filter bypass that could be acting up or closed? That would send the levels up by about 3/4 of a quart. Dont know why but I thought there was something like that over and beyond the actual filter itself.

Might be crazy but it's worth a shot to ask!!!

I would say that either too much oil was dumped in, or the dipstick is off.

if your 2007 is like mine - it will need the additional oil "TO BURN".  It started drinking oil at about 20k, now it is a drunk, fixed once still drinking,  I guess its thirsty.  Next truck - Tundra!
Stay thirsty my friends

I had 2 different 2007 chevys and they both burned oil about a quart every oil change. Another friend of mine bought one shortly after and his burned about 2 quarts between oil changes until GM finally gave him a new motor at about 30,000 miles.

Since this debacle we have both bought Fords and have had no problems at all.

Waly,no filter by-pass,but our tech guy thinks it could have the wrong dip stick as stated as stated by Jake.

As far as oil consumption goes, yup it is an issue with the 2007,and some 2008 trucks with the 5.3lit engine and "
active fuel management" feature,GM won't come out and say this is the problem but what else could it be? after all this block has been out since 2000 w/o a hickup, the good news is th e motor is coverd for a 100k as is the entire powertrain
