What do you you think?  Maybe an archery season next fall, that is, if there's enough animals?

I don't think it would be very smart of the Game and Fish to open it back up until we hit 10,000 again.

I'd say leave it closed again. Doubt there will be enough. In the area we hunt out out there we normally saw several hundred when the numbers were good. They have been declning by 50% each of the last 3 years. Out of the 25 we found last year there was only a couple of bucks in there.

None of the above.  We'll need 3-4 more winters like the one we're having.  With all the hubbub regarding deer season you can bet the farm that G&F won't let any pronghorn outta the genie bottle until there are "enough"

What? An antelope season? Are you kidding!!!!  Obviously you haven't traveled the western part of the state much! The herd has been decimated down to nothing! It will be years before a season is opened up again! Just keep praying for a couple more mild winters! Should be a few good ones taken when they do open it back up! I personally don't think there is as many animals as they're even estimating now!

I've got to say that with virtually no snow, if they're doing arial surveys they're pretty much going to see all of them.  This kind of winter offers a very good opportunity for G&F to get a very accurate number from which to base their management plans.

I was under the impression that they wanted snow when doing surveys, and snowless winters made it more difficult for them. I guess I was wrong about that, Id think the snow would contrast the deer, making them easier to see...

Will be at least another 2 years, that is, if we have good winters before I think they will even consider a season again, probably more like 3 or 4 though

G&F counts pronghorn in late June early July.  I've talked to the biologists at the airport when they are doing the survey

Easy to see from the air in summer.  Tough in winter.

I would like to go to Wyoming.  I think you can get an antelope doe tag out there cheap.  It's just a problem finding a place to hunt.  There's lots of public grasslands in the eastern part of the state, but you have to cross private land to get to some of it.  I saw a bunch near Newcastle a couple years ago on our way to Colorado.  Stopped by an abandoned farmstead to take a leak.  I probably could have gotten nailed for trespassing.

It's been three years - the fall of 2008 - since North Dakota has had a pronghorn antelope season

Nope. I shot my buck in '09

What are the chances of some more animals migrating up here from other states? Especially with the mild winter so far. At least something to add to the wish list rather than waiting on reproduction from the animals currently here.

I would be against a bow only season. No sense driving a bigger wedge between our bow and gun hunters.

I would hope they are smart enough to leave it closed for a couple more years.

"When we step into the outdoors, we have the privilege of standing in the presence of God through the power and majesty of His creation. That makes hunting more than a sport or a hobby. It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground."

I can't see that causing any problems whatsoever.
