problem with 03 chevy silverado

Having an issue with my truck.  When it is cold the guages seem to work when they want to.    Oil pressure, alternator, temp, speedo etc dont like to work when it is cold.   Sometimes when you turn the truck off then back on they work.    Any idea what the problem is?   Thanks

Instrument cluster.  They run about 500 bucks and you can't do them yourself.....stealership has to put them in.  Got an O4 with the same issues.  Have learned to live with it.

could be as simple as your battery is about ready to dump on you. Easy place to start.

Gonna agree with Lov2hnt, I have an 05 silverado with the same issues. Sometimes my speedometer sticks, sometimes my oil pressure gauge is all goofy, sometimes i can't switch back and forth through the info from the wheel. Right now my truck says I have almost 2 full tanks of gas it has wrapped around that far on my gas gauge. For 500 bucks though, I can make sure I fill before I leave town.

I had the same problem on my 2000 silverado.  It was annoying, and I lived with it to avoid the 500 dollar hickory stick beating.

yeah I suppose it is the cluster... need to have oil pressure, alternator, and speedo imho. I doubt it is the battery....no problems turning it over etc and it is new from last Feb.

Ok. Fine! I'm an idiot! Geesh! I was just trying to help!!!
Kidding. It's just that I have seen shorting batteries do some funky stuff. I worked in a service department at a Dodge stealership and we never had problems like that

Have an 03 Yukon.  Found a tip about two years ago to do the following.
1. Pull the cluster fuse.
2. Turn the key to the on (not all the way to start)
3. Listen to the stepper motors humm(resetting themselves), usually for 1 minute or so
4. Turn the key back to the off position and put the fuse back in.

I did this about a dozen times over a 6 month period and no gauges have gone wacky for over a year now.

There is a guy I found in Winona, MN I believe who replaced all the stepper motors for less than $200 including shipping.  Father-in-Law had an entire new cluster install in Grand Forks and it cost over $700.

I have had the same issue with my 03 suburban…I’ve only noticed the speedometer sticking then not working last winter…didn’t happen at all this summer…makes sense now.  Sounds like Effie07 might be on to something couldn’t hurt to try….

Cluster or main BPM? computer.  We had an issue like this on a different GM vehicle.  500 bucks for either one.  We had both go for a cool grand.  when it first started going the entire gauge needle set would load as normal and then completely reset back like the vehicle was off and then load again.  We had about 140,000 miles on it when it happened.  Works great today with 170,000.  Good luck.

I have an 03 Suburban and had to replace my Cluster last year.  The dealership told me that if my truck was under 80k that GM would pay for the part.  However I was at 85k and they would not budge on paying for it.  Very simple to replace yourself but it does cost around $500 for the part.

I don't know, probably hard to get at but, I always like to try the old unplug it and plug it trick just to make sure it's not a connection problem. Fixes things fairly often.

Concur, happened with my 05 a couple times, talked to dealer, dealer told me to "break it" and bring back in before warranty expired. So I did!!! LOL Never had a problem after that.

I'm not discounting the battery yet.   I suppose funny stuff can happen.

I took my cluster out sent it to this http://www.speedometerrepairguy.com/ . He fixes it the same day he gets it. I used a hand held gps for mph till it was back. It was real simple.

Well if it's a newer battery then probably not. In my experience, when you get all these exact same problems it usually is what the others say fixed it for them.
