Prairie dog article

There’s an article on the USFW management of prairie dogs on public land in ND in the Bismarck Tribune this morning on page B3.   If I were smarter computerwise, I’d have cut n pasted it here, but my computer skills remain in 5he computerland dark ages!

There not a whole lot of new stuff in the article but it might be of interest to some of us dog shooters and outdoorspeople.  If someone smarter than me could cutnpaste it, it might start a discussion.  Like does anyone use “varmint greanades” by Barnes for p dogs?  I have some but haven’t used them yet.

Also, though it was a record cold yesterday, I drove past a p dog town and surprisingly there were hundreds of those little rodents out feeding and running around!  Official windchill was - 16!

There’s a good rebuttal in the letters to the editor of the Bismarck tribune yesterday from a rancher out in the badlands, pointing out all the negative stuff about prairie dog encroachment on private land, and his own experience with holes, grass mowed down, etc.  A well written letter.

Several years ago I went to some wildlife meeting with a representative from the G and F talking about P dogs, mostly about burrowing owls and where to see them.  She handed out a G&F document indicating the location of EVERY p dog town in the state.   Unfortunately I lost my copy when we moved.

I wonder if anyone has approached the USFW about obtaining a copy of locations of P Dog towns for the many P Dog shooters like myself, looking to help control their expanding populations.   If dog town locations were publicized a bit  more, shooter could at least help control expanding  town size, and adjacent private land owners would probably welcome safe shooters.

I mentioned this old publication of p dog town location the G and F has a few years ago on FBO and someone asked them for a copy.  They were told they don’t hand them out any more!?!?  Why??? Makes no sense, when expanding towns are being poisoned and I have hundreds of .243 rounds loaded with MOA Varmint Grenades......Like with overpopulation of elk in TDNP, we shooters would be glad to help.

There’s a wolf article in today’s Bis Tribune though it doesn’t say much new.  Just that occasionally we’ll see a wolf or two wandering in from Minnesota or Canada, but. No documented reproduction in ND so far.  I personally hope it stays that way, though it’s kind of cool to see the rare one in ND.   According to all my northern Minnesota buddies they are definitely venison and moose eating machines....
