Re:MuskyManiac Said:Why?? Have you ever used them?? They work and they pass the animal welfare tests!! Cool Pic!! |

Re:Your abviously just another tree hugger that will never be happy with a product unless "YOU" own it, then it will be just fine!?! Comment on something that you have knowledge on. Its quite abvious to me that you dont have a clue. These traps prevent the animial from chewing there foot off. Normal coil springs or long springs dont prevent that at all! So tell me whats better, a animial thats still in your trap when you check them the next day and you can humanely shoot them.. Or walking up to your trap the next day to find a foot in the trap with no animal knowing that it is now walking around the trees with three legs.. O ya and im sure you would be so happy that your precious dog couldnt get caught in this trap sence its "dog proof" and all.. |

Re:Lipripper, I am thinking about getting into trapping next fall/winter. How do you set that type of trap up?

Re:MuskyManiac Said: agreed,, that is a tasteless picture.. |
|
Re:greff Said:Why?? An animal has been legally and ethically restrained. How is this pic any different than a pile of geese or a deer? How about a bucket of fish?? It's obvious to me that very little is known about these traps. They only hold the racoon in place. The ciriculation in the foot is maintained and I've yet to find any fractures or significant tissue damage in caught animals. In fact, the animals can be released with little, if any, ill effects if so desired provided the written and unwritten rules and regulations for taking furbearers are observed. These traps protect the racoons from injuring themselves once they are caught and go the extra mile to prevent non-target animals from becoming caught. IMO these traps are the best method for taking racoons. |

Re: Here's why,
Because the animal is still alive, potentially/probably in fear. Call the person a tree hugger if it makes you feel better, but they have a right to feel that way. It's different from a pic of a dead deer because the deer is dead, not in holding waiting to be killed. Speaking of an animal chewing it's foot off to get away - think of the courage or great desire to get away that would require. Pretty amazing. Anyway, I could care less what anyone thinks about me for responding this way to this or anything else for that matter - but for the record, I support trapping and have done it. Caught beaver and Fisher and it was a great time. Lots of respect for the trappers. It's not easy to fool those critters. I also support people not wanting to see pictures like this and I also support ripping traps out of the river and throwing them into the current when they don't legal info. on them especially after my dad's dog gets caught in one and then my dad's foot did in another when trying to get the dog out. I would gladly do it to your trap as well in that situation.
My sincere thanks to all the men and women who have/are serving this great country. Freedom isn't Free.

Re:Totally agree, very tasteless and inhumane. It's crap like this that will bring some of the outdoor activities down. I'm no tree hugger but this steps over the line, no need to keep an animal in a trap that has it caught by a paw, just terrible. |
|
Re:CHOOT EM'!!!!!!
You can't afford not to go fishing.
|
|
Re:So.... trapping is inhumane? How do you figure? How is it any different than making a poor shot on a white tail and having to track a wounded animal. Did a lot of trapping growing up lot of fun and a good challenge.

Re:These are most likely the same people that have no thought for keeping fish alive in a livewell for hours at a time or when ice fishing leave the fish to freeze or die a slow death in the bucket. Yes the raccoon is most likely scared, but so is the pheasant you jumped out of the cattails, or the buck jumped out of the tree row. Its one reason we are at the top of the food chain.

Re:Atypical Said: First of all, I never called anyone anything. Name calling is what people do when they aren't able to support their position on an issue. Second, you have every right to your opinion and from what I read it is well thought out and presented. You don't like the photo and explained why. I may not agree, but that's not the point. Thirdly, I'm not here to argue. Unfortunately there are those people who get on a site and spew nothing but verbal diahrrea about an issue and disappear without ever presenting one shred of evidence or factual information to support their position. Additionally, there are those who might read said verbal diarrhea and take it for the truth. We as sportsmen need to ensure that truthful facts are being presented unstead of useless drivel. There are to few of us as it is. There are 2 issues being discussed. One was whether or not these traps should be banned and the other is the photo. From what I gather from your response is that you don't think these traps should be banned, you just don't like the picture. Two completely separate issues. |
|
Re:walleye101 Said: I'm fairly certain that the racoon was not left in the trap once discovered. Again, you don't like the photo. Inhumane?? With the current trapping regulations and the animal welfare standards by which all traps and trapping techniques are measured, I must strongly disagree. |
|
Re:poor little raccoon should of tapped him on the head first then took pic |
|
Re:Wow! I thoughts us sportsman stuck together??? Grew up trapping and have no issues with it as long as it's done humanely and sets are done to target specific animals. Done properly trapping is far more successful at eliminating undesirable species and predators than most other methods. Inhumane? Not really if done properly and traps are checked in a timely fashion! I really can't see the opposition to this!!!! |

Re:kdm,
You're right on all accounts and I apologize. I should have addressed all of those things separately with the individuals who said them, some of the things I said were meant to be a general statement which I didn't do a good job of conveying - like my comment about throwing traps into the river for 1. My sincere thanks to all the men and women who have/are serving this great country. Freedom isn't Free.

Re:This absolutly disgusts me!!!!!! Shoot the poor thing instead of getting in it's face and taking a picture you PRICK!!! Pictures like reming me of John Wayne Gacey, takes pictures of his victims before he rapes and kills them, wow man!!! |

Re:pike-master Said: Whaaaaat? Comparing trapping to rape?! Holy Jesus, some of you people have gone off the deep end... |

Re:If you don't have anything good to say, don't say it at all... |

Re:Wow! That's all I have to say about the conversation.
Now for the picture. Great looking coon. I've been using #3 coil springs for fox and coyote for years. Grew up helping my old man check his trap lines. You would be amazed at how many old pictured he has of "live" animals in leg hold traps. Some of them with me in the background at age 4. Good to see some others take pride in their trapping. And that some still trap for that matter. "Catch em cut em up and eat em" Quote from a 3yr old fisherman.

Re:This picture isn't for me either. Atypical sums it up pretty well.
