I Like it,Eyeball,Been called alot  worse!I know some people are going to freak out,but that was the way i was taught to grab a northern by my dad! We went up to Canada with another guy-his boat-for many years. They would not use the net on a pike, you would play out the fish bring it up to the boat and you or somebody else would eyeball it and bring it in!!They did use the net if it was a really big fish but not to offen!!!

There was a trend about 20 years ago where quite a few "eyeballed" pike.  I used to do it myself until I figured out that if you grab them on the rear part of the gill covers it paralyzes them a whole lot better.  I sure don't miss the eye sockets digging into my fingers when those sob's start flopping.  Darn near cut through your fingers on larger pike.

Alot of folks don't realize that eyeballing pike and releasing them is a slow death~don't see it  to much these days in my area but then we don't fish pike either.

no worries....walleyes are by far the easiest to eyeball since their sockets are so big. makes releasing them very easy since im scared to really touch the spiny things.
