Painted Woods Creek - Sunday, June 19, 2011 | |
this is for turtle creak between painted woods and washburn. water is up 6-7 feet at 83, the water is still, and stained, minimal snags. we caught 3 24 inch northern, and a 17 inch cat, all on spoons, and one of the northern on a purple jig with a small blade underneeth. there were some monster carp in there, tried for them with worm under a bobber, no cigar, but as I was bringing it in, something attacked the bobber.

That's a good question. It very well could be underwater and the fish are able to bypass the grate...a guy may have to check that out. Good luck.

definetly, would the water flow over it now that the missori's at 22.35 at washburn and rising? if not, turtle creek will be backed up to 83, I checked google earth from 97 and the river was backed up to 83 even then, if by only a tiny bit, now it should be very noticeable now, should be awesome. I just rememberd, water will likely be flowing into painted woods lake from the north, it is very flat between the lake and the river.

Painted Woods flows through our farm land in Mclean Co. The issue is that the State Water Commission put a screen/gate over the culvert where Painted Woods flows into the Missouri several years ago......otherwise this would be one of the best fisheries in the State right now. I don't don't know why they did it...seems to me it would be an excellent spawning run for walleye.

has the missori backed up to 83? it might, there is not much slope from there to the river, heck, painted woods lake might be a part of the river again, that would be awsome, with the missori's current, fish might be keen to go in to the creek, especialy now because of all the run off, painted woods will be flowing good, I will post a report sometime within the next few days. one time we got a 25 inch eye there, and a few 6 or 7 pound northern, back in the late 60's early 70's, that was a popular spot, not so any more. I am not crazy in saying that there could be brown trout in there, they can survive in water up to 75- 80 degrees, they like marginal water, trophies sometimes come from irigation ditches in california.
