Shoot woman, shoot!

Good job!

Okla. Woman Shoots, Kills Intruder: 911 Operators Say It's Okay to Shoot

A young Oklahoma mother shot and killed an intruder to protect her 3-month-old baby on New Year's Eve, less than a week after the baby's father died of cancer.

Sarah McKinley says that a week earlier a man named Justin Martin dropped by on the day of her husband's funeral, claiming that he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello. The 18-year-old Oklahoma City area woman did not let him into her home that day.

On New Year's Eve Martin returned with another man, Dustin Stewart, and this time was armed with a 12-inch hunting knife. The two soon began trying to break into McKinley's home.

As one of the men was going from door to door outside her home trying to gain entry, McKinley called 911 and grabbed her 12-gauge shotgun.

McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO that she quickly got her 12 gauge, went into her bedroom and got a pistol, put the bottle in the baby's mouth and called 911.

"I've got two guns in my hand -- is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?" the young mother asked the 911 dispatcher. "I'm here by myself with my infant baby, can I please get a dispatcher out here immediately?"

The 911 dispatcher confirmed with McKinley that the doors to her home were locked as she asked again if it was okay to shoot the intruder if he were to come through her door.

"I can't tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby," the dispatcher told her. McKinley was on the phone with 911 for a total of 21 minutes.

When Martin kicked in the door and came after her with the knife, the teen mom shot and killed the 24-year-old. Police are calling the shooting justified.

"You're allowed to shoot an unauthorized person that is in your home. The law provides you the remedy, and sanctions the use of deadly force," Det. Dan Huff of the Blanchard police said.

Stewart soon turned himself in to police.

McKinley said that she was at home alone with her newborn that night because her husband just died of cancer on Christmas Day.

"I wouldn't have done it, but it was my son," McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO. "It's not an easy decision to make, but it was either going to be him or my son. And it wasn't going to be my son. There's nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child."

The dead person's family will prolly sue the police department, because it took them more than 21 minutes to get there.

We need more stories like this...where the homeowner blows the intruder away.

And instead of the media (even local news) announcing "lock your doors people....lock it or lose it..."  etc....we need them to say "A big congrats going out to Sarah McKinley for killing an intruder...." followed by "And North Dakotans are encouraged to buy a gun and blow anyone away who comes into their house that they don't want there. Remember folks, the law in ND says you can do this, and not be in an trouble with law enforcement"

Then announce a current "count" of how many intruders won't be intruding anymore.

"With Sarah McKinley's score, that brings the total number of bottom dwellers that will no longer be able to break in to people's homes to 5.

We need promote a competition with another state with the same laws.   Dead intruders = 3 points, wounded = 1 pt.

Whichever state ends up with more points at the end of the year, gets the "Vigilante Justice" traveling trophy.

Not that it's relevant at all, but I am left wondering what was their intent?

Kidnapping the kid, raping the gal, robbing the house?

AND, where the heck does she live that it takes 21 minutes from the time a 911 call of an armed intruder for the police to get to?  This was afterall described as a "city area" woman.

"Good God girl thats a Colts Dragoon. What are ya gonna do with a horse pistol like that."

Score one for the good guys. Feel bad for this girl though. Lost her husband on Christmas day then has to go through this kind of trauma.

I joined the military not only to fight for my country but to fight for those that can't fight for themselves. Thats why I'm here.

wow, I can't believe CBS ran a story like that. Sad some idiot made a choice that gave her no choice. Hopefully she has some good family support. Husband dies then this.

Those men were breaking in to kill that mother because the intruder came by once just after her husband died.  She did not let  him in.  Then he came back again - this time, with another man.  They both were going to rape, rob and  and kill her.

She has such gumption. I am praying for her.

Typical media. Just watched the story on ABC news (actually my wife was watching it). I was on the computer. Anyway,  There was no mention of anybody breaking the door down or anyone entering the house. The news did mention that she has seen one of the guys before and that  two men were trying to break in for 20 minutes. They didnt even mention anyone holding a knife.  Just another story with half truths

They just had the story on NBC news.  Sounds like people have been donating to her.  They mentioned something about the Castle Doctrine and I looked up which states have this law.  North Dakota is one of those.  This website also mentions the "Stand Your Ground" law which states that you don't have the duty to retreat if threatened.  I think North Dakota should adopt this also.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

I guess this story shows why people need to be willing and able to protect themselves and not assume the police will be there.

Actually this story was on "Nightline" last evening. According to the Nightline story she lived out in the country a long ways from anywhere so it took a long time for the cops to get there.
