Obamacare=Cut in Hours

 http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/02/11/1568291/virginia-employees-ob...

I have a good friend that is just finishing up his college degree. He texted me recently to tell me Obamacare had hit his campus. His employer cut his hours to 29 hrs/week to avoid having to offer him health insurance. I also heard a caller on the radio this morning complaining about the same thing. I wonder how many people have buyer's remorse?

No worry. He can always pay a fine and be "covered" by the gubernment.

SO? Did he have ins. Before? I am guessing not. I am sick and tired ,as someone that HAS insurance, subsidising the piece of shit companies that want to play with their hours just so their employees don't qualify for benifits!

this is the tip of the iceburg.  when it's fully implement next year and all the new taxes kick in, reality will take over.  any glimmer of hope the economy is turning around will disappear in a hurry

Did you know that currently there are over 66,000 North Dakotans on Medicaid and in Oct. 2013 when Obamacare kicks in, 20,000 - 30,000 more are expected to enroll?

This is the federal expansion of Medicaid all states are increasing the number of people covered by Medicaid. If the population of nd is 700000 that will put 12% of the people on Medicaid.

so tell him to quit and find a job that offers more hours and better bennies.  Pretty simple, leave the piece of crap employer and find one that values and will reward his labor.

If you are an employer and your choice is to pay high insurance rates or a fine and the fine is less than the insurance cost...guess what?  Businesses aren't in it to pay for bennies they are doing it to make a profit.  If they have investors even more so.  There are a ton of new taxes coming in the next few years too.  Also Obamacare is designed to push out all the private insurers and go to a government single payer program.  It's just going to get worse.

He is considering his options. I told him it's what he gets for not moving to North Dakota like I told him to. LOL. It's amazing that so many Americans think it's okay for the government to tell employers that they have to offer certain benefits. Welcome to socialism/communism boys and girls.

i don't make a habit out of making somebody money without being well compenated for my time, knowledge and skill.  if my current employer doesn't want to do it somebody else would.  I receive several offers a year from competing shops.

Cpete,

That may be an option here in ND but in the rest of the nation where real.unemployment has been above 11% for several years, the majority of the labor force doesn't have the option to quit because their employer "doesn't value them" (what a crock of $hit).

I work in employee benefits and specialize in COBRA administration. Since Obamacare passed, our COBRA line of business EXPLODED. All of the nation's employers are gearing up to cut hours and lay people off. I haven't seen it this bad since the economy tanked in '09.

I have a front row seat to the economic impacts of obamacare. This is not going to be pretty, people.

yep, there's some that think we've bottomed out on the economy.  well I've got some news for them,  we haven't seen anything yet.  there's still over 300,000 new unemployment claims a week right now.  that's going to explode once the full result of obamacare is felt.  that'll come sometime next year.  May even start late this year just prior to it's full implementation.  You think we have out of staters here now just wait.  buy stock in U-Haul now.

Walkswithwhispers---I would bet you don't make 7.25 an hour, work 29 hrs a week, and get no benefits. I would bet if your employer cut your wage to $7.25 an hour, cut  your hours to 29 per week, and took away your benefits you would be on FBO whining like a little wimp. Its easy to make judgements when its all good in your corner.

WWW please tell me you don't make a good salary, have benes--please tell me you are one of the folks on the edge and still doesn't want any help----if not you suck.

Sorta true, however without quality employees you are not going to be making a profit. I am from the mindset that I want to keep my good employee's to keep my good reputation.

Quality people get quality jobs, and quality employers know that and pay to keep them
