Hit the ice yesterday, about 10 inches… Had a small trout hit the line,  it was about 4 foot down from the hole but no luck bringing it up. Quiet most the day after that. Moved around the lake popping holes to find a sweet spot, but still no luck. Guess the fish just aren’t ready to be served up on the table yet!

I am looking to head to northgate next weekend and want to know if anyone can tell me the ice conditions for the lake.  Hoping to catch a few eyes, trout or gill.  It seems that darlin has slowed down a bit.

the road going to the water is free of snow but i had to walk on large amounts of snow probably 12 -14 inches on the edge of the ice. and scattered snow drifts extremely hard .at least a person doesnt have to walk very far out to find deep water that was nice i started in about 18-20 foot of water not much luck there so slowly made my way closer to shore and had better luck.in about 12-14 fow i used the super dooper lure  it was bright yellow with orange dots on it,and the other lure i used was the lindy darter blue gill color that worked best. i tried the perch colored  goby lure made by jr lure co i think? that one had alot of bites but just couldnt get anything to the hole to see what they were the one time i thought it might have been trout but not sure though. to start the day off i used the super dooper lure and was jigging eratic and had a had strike so i tried to entice a strike again by eratically jigging it again and got something on and  once i got the blue gill out of the hole i noticed i had foul hooked the little guy through the bottom of his lip.i figured he must have come to see what was going on and on my upward pull hooked him as he got too close. i let him go thinking things were going to pickup. and  i actually came up to see if i could get a trophy blue gill. i jigged for awhile with nothing happening so broke out a second pole with the blue gill darter on and caught a little perch ,i was suprised coz i didnt know they had perch in there too.. he was only 5 inches but let him go to grow some more.  then about five minutes after i released the first perch i got another one about eight inches i let him go too he was still to small.then i jigged alittle more had alot of bites but just couldnt hook nothing.then the bites stopped.  i jigged for ten minutes or so and  by this time i was slowly pulling the jig up and down and all of a sudden in my motion i had alot of resistance and this was weird but i could feel  by lindy darter being pulled out of the mouth of something with teeth but it seemed like it didnt move or do anything but my lure was scratched from somethings teeth. i think it might have been a northern but undecided on that ? i'll always remember that experience of how the rod felt and how you could feel the teeth of what  ever, scratching the lure. i left at about 1:00 to meet up with a buddy that was fishing at lake darling today.
