I have read some of the previous posts and for the most part people are catching tons of small perch. Even though these perch are small, they are still adults capable of reproducing. The size of this lake doesn't seem to be suitable for as many perch that are in there, therefore causing their growth to be stunted. Not saying people should be taking buckets of 6" perch out of here because that is just pointless, but leaving them in there doesn't necessarily mean they will be bigger next year either. The game and fish dept. targets lakes that are loaded with stunted adult perch and removes them before they spawn and relocates them in other lakes that are suitable for perch but dont necessarily have them yet. This is how your grandpa's pond could be a honey hole for jumbo perch in a couple years.
On a different note, I plan on going to North Golden this Saturday so hopefully I can get some action with some decent size. You can bet I won't be keeping the little guys though, I don't like cleaning fish that much. |

There isnt any keepers cuz the 100 people that are out there every friday and saturday are keeping 6inch perch. |

Fished North Golden on Sunday(15th) and slaughtered the perch(mostly about 6-8 inches, caught 3 that were 10-13 inches). Was fishing in about 10 FOW, using pretty much anything you could put down the hole. Tried various colored jigs, jigging raps, chubby darters...you name it. Had a couple tip-ups out but no northerns. Ice was about 10-12 inches, there was two guys who drove their pickups out( i would wait awhile yet). Overall wasn't too bad of a day fishing just wish I could've found some bigger fish.

Took the fiance out fishing for the first time this year... fished off of the west side and hammered the small perch again... no size at all. Fun time being out but need to find the bigger perch... once again i urge people to throw back the small ones so we have good fishing there next winter.

Fished 3hrs off north ramp and caught over 100 perch with my 9yr old daughter. She caught about 70 of them. I couldnt keep two rods in at once. Two buddies had my 10yr year old son in thier house 15yrds away and caught about 90. No size but very quick action, Kept zero. 10 feet of water. Using any jig with half of a minnow at a time.

Thinking about heading out to Golden tomorrow morning and was just wondering what the ice thickness is and if anyone has been driving on it after this cold week? Anyone willing to share what they are biting on. This will be my first time fishing there. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks guys!

Ice was about 10-12'' where i was last weekend. No vehicles on ice, just atv's and snowmobiles.

Went and fished North Golden for the first time this year and just like everybody else has been saying held true for us. We landed somewhere between 200 and 250 perch, with 0 keepers. Alot of fun for the family to go and fish, but the size is lacking so far. Counted 21 ice houses out there on saturday and i know there were more on the north side of the lake... alot of fishing going on out there and as long as people are throwing back the small perch the lake will be real good next summer/winter.

We were out on the lake all day. Ice is a strong 10 to 12 inches with a layer of water/ice on top. caught the usual 100 plus perch with 2 keepers each about a 1lb to 1.5. We set up self jig tip ups and caught 2 really nice northerns. one was 4lbs the other was 5 1/4 lbs. Like I said we were there all day. its a great lake to bring the family to catch and release perch. Not to much action other than that.

Been great fishing the last 3 days. Lots of small perch but plenty of keepers. We caught perch on anything we used. Good luck.

Fished North Golden this afternoon. We caught a lot of small perch and threw back the few keepers (9+inches) we caught back. The bit everything we put down. There is a lot of water on top of the ice making it really slick out there. The ice was about 10 inches. The ATV would only drive perpendicular to the wind because it was so slick and windy. I'm gonna need some chains.

fished the north lake fri and again today, fishing was great. friday landed over 200 perch easy..........mainly small guys one after another but did keep about 10 monster jumbos and a 20in eye using a chubby darter in about 12fow. today me and a buddy went and caught around 75 or so perch no keepers but overall a good couple of days fishing

Ice was fine, caught two small northerns. A couple of perch. This lake has been outfished and is done for a few years I fear
