Does anyone run one of these? I am thinking of having a rifle custom built, and sticking one of these on it. Does anyone have any experience with them? Comments?

I know nothing but what I have heard and it's all been amazing.  Over seas indestructible and a benchrest shooters dream...nothing better but U.S. Optics which are even more pricey.
It is folly to assume my awesome lies dormant.

I have a friend who has one and doesnt really like it. Not very clear and it doesnt make a very solid click when your adjusting for windage and elevation.

Personally I'm trying to save up for one myself, never heard anything bad until now from BTR...if I had money to burn (which I don't) I wouldn't hesitate.

I have a 8-32X-56 Nightforce on a Remington Sendero in 300 win mag.   I've had no problems with it, clicks are solid, glass is clear and sharp.  Don't have my notes in front of me but if memory serves last winter took 8 to 10 fox/coyotes between 500 and 650 yards - one shot kills.  It is a heavy scope but on the 300 I don't mind the weight, it doesn't get that far from the truck.   If I could change anything it would be the click value as I'm past 2 full turns to get out to 1000 yards.  Not sorry  I bought mine.

Well tell him i will give him 200 bucks for that scope.  If i was him i would send it in as soft clicks and bad glass are 2 things i have not heard anyone ever complain about with nxs.  There are alot of great scopes out there us optics was mentioned but dont forget premier, hendsoldt, ior, vortex razor, schmidt & bender are all right there.  I will tell you one thing if you find a tougher more reliable scope then the nxs you have some thing.  there is a pic going around of  a guy who took a ak round through the tube and his nxs still performed with problems

I have a 5.5-22x56 NXS on my .338 Lapua and the scope is awesome.  Put it in good rings and on a heavy base and don't worry about losing your zero. The other weekend while antelope hunting in wyoming i bet i cranked the knobs up and down atleast 20 times from shots that ranged from 200 to 800 yards and gun was still exactly zeroed.  If you spend the money on the scope spend the money on the mounts.  Go something in the range of Badger or nightforce rings and bases.  The glass is clear and the clicks are clear just nor really loud but clear to the touch.  I also run a US optics ST-10 on my .308 and really enjoy that scope too.  Clear glass and clear clicks and another scope you never have to worry about losing zero.  I would just about bet money i could pull either of them two scopes off my gun and beat a deer to death, put them back on and still more than likely be zeroed.  the things are built like tanks, alittle heavy but well worth it.  These are the only two scopes that i have never worried about my zero being messed up after getting beat around in a vehicle or while out hunting.

Nightforce makes an excellent scope both optically and mechanically.  I like their reticle choices, especially for calculating windage hold off.  I can like the NP-R1, MLR, or Mil-Dot pretty much in that order.

The 22x, 32x, and 42x are bigger and heavier than I care to carry on a hunting rifle.  I prefer my hunting rifles to be no more than about 9#, 8# or less is even better and it's difficult to meet that weight when you hang 2# worth of scope on the top.

Bdogs   what are you currently running for optics now?   depending what you want to do and what you are currently shooting thre are alot of good scopes to look at... and many in a slightly lower price range.

vortex makes the viper and it s supposed to be prety legit

trijicon makes a dandy scope

dont forget leupold . . . both the VX3 and the mark 4

a good site for equipment reviews is www.snipercentral.com they have quite a few optics review in most price ranges

Hey guys, those nightforces are very nice scopes for sure.  I just purchased a Huskemaw this past summer, which are made by nightforce from what i am told.  It is a heavier scope also and the glass clarity is amazing.  I don't think you would be disappointed in one of these also.  No doubt they cost some money, but it is well worth it.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I am not sure what I am going to put it on, but I want something that is going to reach out there and touch something. Think 500-1000 yd shots. I am planning on having something custom built, but the .338 lapua is really tempting as well. Opinions on long range guns?

IMO it's all about the bullet.  Start with the bullet and build around it.  IMO a hot 6 or a hot 7 does the most for the least.  243Win or AI version of same, 6-284 or .24-06 with the 105 A-max or VLD.  The 7 offers lots of great choices, 280AI, 7SAUM, 7WSM, 7Rem with 168 or 180 VLD's, or the 162 A-Max.

I agree, figure out what you want to do with it and go from there. Is this a long range paper gun or do you want to kill animals at 1000 yards?

If you are new at shooting long distance, I would shy away from any of the hot rod calibers and get something thats capable and cheap to shoot that wont go through a barrel every 1000 rounds.

I definately would NOT recommend a lapua or any other super ultra mag caliber to a new shooter (although they are tacti-kool)

Consider building a savage, you can swap barrels at home in 20 minutes and upgrade to hotter calibers as your interest and experience grow.

My next long range rig will be a 300 win mag or possibly a 264 win mag. Barrels are the cheapest part of a long range setup so I wouldn't worry to much about burnin barrels unless u do a ton of shooting. Personally I don't like 30 calibers just cause of selection of components and that 308 is a dream to shoot and I'm sure the same goes for a good 6mm which will do anything u want it to. The 338 lapua is a good round and the recoil isn't any worse than a lot of rifles I've shot and boy does it hit with authority will a 300 grain matchking.

Not made by night force that is a internet rumor.  If i paid that much for a scope I dont know why anyone would want to be pigeon hold into shooting only one load and one bullet.  What do you do if that turret is calibrated for sea level and you go to the mountains and end up 7000 feet above see level?

Bring the rain he can keep the nighteater as i have some toilet papper rolls that would work better.  I think they tried to make their name that close just to play of the nightforce name and trick some un informed people

If you got the money for a NF, buy it.....They are great, of course that is all secondhand as I have no money for one of them, therefore no practical experience with one.

I wanted one is the worst way not too long ago when I was scope shopping for my new .308. But I fell into a hell of a deal on a MK 4 and couldn't justify the cost difference between the two at that point. Plus, I'm pretty sure my current level of skill does not justify the purchase of a NF scope.

Maybe someday though, both money and skill will come.

For a scope that won shooting illustrated's optic of the year, i woulda thought it had been a little better quality.
