my well is 240 feet deep they (sangel) did a frak job on a well about 3/4 mile as the crow flys this morning I have more rotten egg smell than water just got back from giving a water sample to North central human services.
The well is 44 days old and I have grey water so I pulled the pump and there is about 6 inches of really fine sand that came with the pump and now my total depth is reduced to 214 feet at least that is as far as the 1lb plumb go down.  Oil company says it is not their fault.  Now I am going to sample the water for the next 30 days and see if their chemicals show up  I wonder if the oil company insurance will cover well repair
I am not accusing them of distruction of my new well yet until all of the water samples come back but it does seem odd.  flow tested the well and it was 24gpm with open end. 2 days after the well was drilled now  the same test I am getting 11 gals in 8 minutes then the flow is zero.
the test is with a 5 in od casing and a 1 in black plastic bottomed out and 120 psi at 25 cfm

what kind of formation was your well drilled into.  i am sort of suspicious of the fracking process.  but, until i see hard evidence that it is causing damage to aquifers and or wells, i will trust the process is safe.  regardless, considering the center of the bakken is something like 2 miles deep, its hard to believe the fracking had anything to do with your well.  my guess would be that it collapsed or filled w/ sediment.   i'd bet my last dollar that its a problem with the packin, screening, casing or grouting depending on the type of well casing and the formation it was drilled into and not the frac job.  but, my knowledge of well construction is limited.

I would  think it would be hard to cause damage at -240 feet when fracing at -10,000 feet.

It could also be that the extreme amounts of precip this year are causing problems, ground shifting and what not.

I don't believe that's uncommon with new wells.

marksman,

I dont believe the fracing process can alter your water source at all but the drilling process of the well could have however. was your well drilled before or after the oil well was drilled? either way when the rig drills the 'surface', usually the first two thousand ft, it is drilled with fresh water. however sometimes they will hit an aquifer and 'lose circulation'. essentially they pump water they are using to drill with into the aquifer. in order to regain 'circulation. LCM or lost circulation material is pumped downhole to try and plug the hole into the aquifer where the water is escaping. LCM is typically made up of cedar fiber, saw dust, etc, and sometimes we used a type of 'beads" that would expand when mixed with water.  none of these materials are harmful to the aquifer but personally i wouldnt want to drink it.  im sure its filtered to your house but if you have any livestock tanks or maybe take a sample from a hydrant, check for any kind of "materials/matter" in your water supply. hope this helps a little bit.
