Looks like ed's bait shop got er wrong. I posted a photo of the "supposed new record" in the gallery... someone then posted a link to the exact fish, and its over a year old. The picture on Ed's bait shop is the same photo i posted.

Reminds me of that new "state record walleye" pic that was floating around last month. Turns out it was a Zander caught in Europe somewhere.

Hmm, after looking at the picture in the gallery and following the link to the story from last year stating it was 2.5 pounds, and caught in MN, I find it funny that Ed's has it posted as if it were caught at Devils and weighed a pound more.

Oh well, advertise however you can I suppose...

I wonder if anyone has tallied up all the "new record" threads and then gone back to see how many of them have panned out?

I would say there has got to be 30+ new record threads from when i glanced, and maybe 1  panned out. The one panning out being the new state bow record from this past fall.

 wow people, relax
Do you really think DIrks put that on their web page to trump up business.  He received a text with the picture saying it was from Rice Lake.  Pretty sure people fishing Rice lake aren't coming to ed's bait shop to get bait, if they are they are geographically challenged.  Some of you need to chill out a little.

If the idea of being the 1st to post some new big fish story gets some of you so caught up and then it turns out to be wrong and you go back and get mad at the source, well check the story out first before you get made like a fool.  Holy cow.

If hunting and fishing makes you that miserable of a person, find a new hobby.

Lol,
Say what ya want coot, that picture is put on there for the average person to believe it was caught in Devils. Just advertising I guess, just like whether there were a fish left in the lake to bite or not, their fishing report will always say fishing is pretty good. Granted they can't say it is excellent every time or everyone will know its BS.
If anyone needs to chill out on this subject it may be you.

Yes.

There are only 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary, and those who do not.

I doubt Jon did it for the publicity.  He's just young and inexperienced.  I'm sure some people hyped it up and he got caught in it like so many others do on here every time there's a new bogus lake or state record on here.

Wow is all I have to say.
I have no dog in this fight, but for you conspiracy theorists about Ed's Bait Shop's marketing practices, holy cow.
If anything as a local fisherman I like to see less pressure.
As an employee of the The Cove, I like to see people out at Woodland and not Ed's, but to say that Johnny was plotting to corner the monster perch fisherman market by putting up that picture, well, you are providing me with a pretty good laugh.
Too funny.

I am very confident that there was no malicious intent in posting that picture, if there was, shame on him, but to crucify him like he is trying to dupe others is not kosher with me I guess.
Honestly I would say this is a non-story.

Who cares if he posted a picture, have none of you forwarded a pic that you thaught was cool or neat?  If so when you did it did you intend on making other people believe it was yours probablly not.
