NEW Ice Auger & Cargo Racks for Snowmobiles and ATVs

That is slick, all have to make one at work tomorrow. all put my 14 years of welding and fabrication to good use.

Uh oh, bluegills24/7 is going to want patent infractions!  Ha ha!

My buddy built something similar to this for his snowmobile.  And did so for quite a bit less in supplies.  I think anyway.  But he doesn't have his labor factored in.

He now built a front mount for his auger.  So no more auger in the back raising cane with backweight of the snowmobile.  His auger will be mounted just above the headlight on the front of his sled.  That will be something I will implement as well.

Why?  The issue of weight displacement.  Another is the snow.  I don't want snow sifting up into the carb, exhaust, etc.  Yeah, could buy a cover of some sort but why not develop something to place the auger up front?  Dave Genz has a neat design but he has some major fabrication work.  There's more crude ways of doing it which bluegills and I will entertain.

As you can see, with the rack at the bottom of the track you will have major sifting of snow into your gear.  Okay if all concealed but going to be a mess I think in the long run especially on those days of wet snow, slush, etc.  Going to get gear wet.

Another question is do they fabricate this rack for every model of snowmobile?  I'll have to read on it more.

Very interesting though.  Gives guys ideas or reaffirms one didn't waste a bunch of time building his own...right bluegills!!! 

Seems like a pretty good product.  Keeps your gear from bouncing around in your sled.   Like the one picture showed, mount a heavy duty hinged tote and your in business.  Most sleds use a standard 15 inch wide track.  Makes this the easiest way to make a universal system. 
Cold-rolled steel, detachible auger system, univeral mount, and its "Made by the American working man, for the American working man."   

I'm sure it wont stop a lot of us backyard handymen from making our own. It is nice to know there are finally some options out there!!!!

Just curious why anyone would wanna put a auger bracket on their snowmobile? gonna need more than an auger to tote, I use a  sled which is old snow mobile tunnel  upside down with home made 2x 4s clad in sheet metal to haul my stuff with. Can haul auger, propane ,bait , gas, back pac, tip ups. Favorite sled to use is a one banger 72 lynx 300 cc, never had a prob, being under powered ,even up hill in fairly deep snow, light and easy to throw around. cleated track. but thats me.

I like the auger accessible.  The reasoning is so I don't have to dig it out of my Polar Sport ice house sled each and every time I want to drill a whole.  It helps for quick depth checking and mobility.  Not to mention, things get beat the heck in the back of a portable ice house when the drifts become hard or when there is no snow.

Yeah, after I dug through photos and calmed my initial reaction down it all can be a useful tool.  For whatever reason, I can't get over the 25 ish pounds of the auger weighing things down on the rear of the sled.  Maybe it isn't an issue but when you start plopping things like Vex, poles, etc and then add the auger it can add up quick.  Okay for sleds with heavy duty suspension and/or the combination of a light rider (non-chubby guy like us...ha ha ha).  Of course, if you have two passengers then the weight is really becoming an issue.

But yeah, the explanation of the 15 wide track was obvious but I missed thinking with my brain.

So handyman bluegills, you have plans for what you thought up for my sled?  We'll have to compare notes.  Wait, I haven't got to stare at my sled to make up my own notes yet.  We'll discuss yours over some "trout" this weekend.
