First off this goes against everything I believe in.  I have promised my wife that I would post this.  I need to find a new home for my 3 1/2 year old German Wirehaired Pointer.   Our lives have changed by adding 2 children to the family.  Sage is a high energy dog that doesn't get enough attention from us anymore due to my work schedule and our children.  She loves to hunt and has pointed many pheasants.  She would retrieve a horse if you could throw one far enough.  She is a great swimmer and has retrieved many ducks.  She isn't a finished dog.  She just loves to hunt. She needs to go to a hunting family with lots of land to run and explore with somebody to give her undivided attention.  We just can't supply that right now.  Only serious inquires from bird hunters please.  I don't need everyones opinion on this.  This isn't easy for me.

Riverscout - As a life long dog owner, I am sure making that decision has to be very gut wrenching. However, you are doing what is best for the dog and I admire you for that!

I'll ask around for you man.

I know exactly where you are coming from, gave away both my labs out of the best interest for them as wife  would have nothing to do with them after we got married, when I was @ work. Not an easy decision, but now seeing them they are much happier.

Sage is a female. She is fixed. I can't remember the kennel off hand. I got her in Washington state when I lived there.

I understand the gut wrenching part, but do what is best for the dog.  We waited to long to place our pet with someone that had a better fit for the animal.  Friday evening we lost our dog due to our failure to deal with the situation and  hoping a solution would present itself.

I feel your pain! At least Sage is young and in her prime! I'm in a VERY similar boat, with a 8 year old GWP: Since birth "Andy" has always had my now 12 year old lab for companionship.  It's time to put "Mac" the lab down, but when I leave Andy cries and whines.  He is a solid fixed male GWP that is high energy, a complete knot head at times, because he runs 100 mph and 100% every time out in the field!  I've been putting off putting my lab down, simply because I don't know what I will do with Andy.
Kid #2 was born in May and my "duck dog" Mac turned 12 and just can't hunt.....which leaves "Andy" not getting to do what he loves.  If anyone wants a pair of them, here is a great chance.....If you are going to talk poorly about this, you don't have kids or a wife and kids who suddenly became #1 after years with the dogs being in that spot.....
My fear is that when I die my wife will sell my hunting and fishing gear for what I told her I paid for them!

thats when kid #1 keeps andy in order and his bud

girls are easier to deal with -- i have to admit that ---more of a loner.

Sams club and a carton of ciggys( aka rawhides) doesnt hurt either.

PM sent.  There's 2 wirehair kennels in Wa, and this one shows very similar traits to the female wirehair I got from Inverness kennels (I think that's the right one).

Well I had a couple people that were interested in her.  I almost went through with it but they decided they couldn't take her.  I am currently changing my schedule to accomodate Sage.  I am going to run with her every morning before work and take her to the dog park everyday after work.   Twice a day now instead of the normal once a day.  If it doesn't work out this time and my wife still wants to kill me.  Then I will have to continue my search.  I want to thank everyone for being understanding.  Wish me luck!!

Sounds like the best option to me.  Good luck with your girl.
