has anybody looked thru or shot with the new g7 scope from gunwerks.  i know it's pretty pricey but just curious if anyone has tried it out yet.

Just a nsx with a balistic turret.  Dont know why any one would want to limit the scope with one.

Once you do a custom turret like they advertise, you're pidgon-holed into using ONLY that bullet/load combo.  What happens if your chosen bullet is discontinued or "improved"?  What if the powder you use is discontinued or changed?  What happens if you decide to keep the scope but buy a new rifle or have your current rifle re-barreled in a new caliber?  In almost every case stated above, you're back on the horn with Gunwerks and they're in your pocket for a new custom turret.  I do like the idea of lower profile paralax/windage adjustments and a dust cover on the windage turret.

On the other hand, if you buy a Nightforce 5.5-22 with high-speed MOA or Mil turrets and a zero stop you get everything offered on the G-7 as well as the flexibility to make as many changes as you need to with only the need to print out a new ballistics table from any one of the many free online calculators.

Anyone know what reticle comes on the G-7 Nightforce?

I think you hit all the points there Horsager.  I do believe the reticle is a special design from the Davidson's.  Pretty much has windage by mph if I recall.  Don't recall if they have any elevation on them.  I looked through a Husky a few years back.

Standard non zerostop NXS run around $1700 now if I recall what does the G7 run?

Exactly.. if a person has that much to invest in a scope, I think they can afford either another one or load development...LOL

I'm the devil's son..... call me young gun.

I'd spend 2K on optics before I would on a rifle....food for thought.

Nightforce products fricken rock!  However BDC turrets/reticles tend to sway those whom either don't care or don't care to learn MOA or Mils.

There is a market for them, just like there is for Cliff Notes.

My advice, learn MOA and or Mils.

For me, this solution would be nice.  Normally, if you find a load you like, why change it?  Dad has been with his 7mm for years upon years with custom load.  He then decided he wanted a change.  Not in a load but in a gun.  So he bought a 7mm STW.  He now has a load for that.

To me, many buy one gun and are done with it.  If they want another, they buy another with new setup and everything.

Call me lazy, stupid or whatever but having a weapon setup for its job is what I like.  If I had the cash, I'd be buying one of these I think.  Or maybe I am a sucker for what the Davidson's do.  I don't know, they are just so particular in their products, how they present their TV show, their tips and tactics, etc.  Very professional.  I trust that.

But yeah, for those who like to play, swap scopes, shoot different loads constantly then nope, this doesn't make sense.  But for us buy-a-gun-and-scope-once type folks (which I think is by far the norm) this is intriguing.

I want five Christmas and birthday presents in one.  Hint, hint to my wife and family...

Brent,

I haven't forgot our conversations.  I just have been side tracked of late with house remodels and such.  It stinks always having things to spend money on rather than toys!

In fairly recent history both Barnes and Berger have re-stated BC's on current production bullets.

Believe it or not, I'm very much a 1-rifle, 1-load type of shooter, in particular with hunting rifles.  I've gunned the same load from my 300Win and 270Win since swapping to TSX's in '04.  The re-statement of the 200gn .308 by Barnes caught me with a custom reticle from Leupold.  Because the reticle only has hold-overs to 500yds, it's not that big of a deal, if it had a custom turret to say 600+, things would be wonky.

Sorry to hear that Tim.  If it makes you feel any better I have been spending on toys.  Got myself some keys to the Moffit range also, was really peaceful when you are the only one out there and the entire 1000yd. berm is yours to spread out on this morning.  Wish we would have had some better wind gusts though didn't learn much in such nice conditions.

What happens when you burn out your barrel in that STW after 600 rounds and replace it? Get new turrets to match the new barrel?

Horsager here is the rest I got for competing.  Now the only thing left is the rifle when they finish.  http://www.sebcoax.com/

I got a 1/2" bottom rear bag, rest, and F-class feet.  Should be here in a week or so.

Sure, why not.

With a specialty weapon that is reserved for one role it will take quite a few years to get to a point the barrel is wore out.  At least how I shoot.  Most of my greater shooting would be of the smaller caliber weapons.

Rest assured, Tim would get 2K+ out of the barrel.

For the record, the newest scope we have on any of our guns is an ancient VX III.  Dad shoots much more than me.  But when I do shoot it is, "okay, aim here and then up a little more...little more...squeeze..."did I get it?"

Sometimes the balloon pops and sometimes it doesn't.  Ha ha.
