THE NEW WELFARE MAP

These 11 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed!

Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2011, between food stamps, housing support, child care, Medicaid and other benefits, the average U.S. household below the poverty line received $168.00 a day in government support. What’s the problem with that much support? Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000, which averages out to $137.13 a day.

To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30.00 an hour for a 40-hour week, while the average job pays $25.00 an hour.

AND YOU AND I ARE PAYING FOR IT!!!

Does this even remotely seem right??

 This is rediculous.   FW:FW:FW:FW:RE:FW:FW:FW:FW.

If you spent 1/5 the amount of time it takes to read this garbage to actually googling whether this was true you wouldn't have wasted all of our time.

First off, as per the links freezer posted (one link does not work), this all started when Forbes magazine listed these 11 states as "danger spots for investors", and they based their finding on 2 factors: there are more takers and makers and the credit worthiness of the state.
Both snopes and politifact come to the conclusion that the data used to determine there are more takers than makers is not fair nor accurate in their OPINION. I guess I think the data that was used to determine if there are more takers than makers is accurate and fair, so I dont think snopes or politifact are right. Here is a couple of blurps from politifact, only 3 for workers for every 2 welfare receipents, yikes!

Nationally in 2011, Rector said, the average number of recipients was approximately 100 million -- nearly a third of the US population, he noted. According to the bureau’s employment data, 140 million people had a job that year.

Upshot: There were three employed people for every two "welfare" recipients, including children, as defined by the Heritage Foundation.

I live in Illinois and a few days ago I got to witness the following. I was behind a lady at the local grocery store. She had an I-phone, hair extensions, gold rings and chains, nails done up, tatoos all over and a coach bag. She had $300 plus in food items and $40 in other items. She used her food stamp card to pay for the food. She then pulled out a hand full of 100 dollar bills and started thumbing through them. After a little bit she found a couple 20 dollar bills and handed them to the clerk. She then said "I was begining to think all I had was 100's". When I left the store, I saw the same lady loading her FOOD STAMP paid for food into her Escalade. So now I know where my portion is going to..

You are right Freezerfiller.  I've adopted my own Bobkat Rule, which says to me "All political crap that is cutn' pasted or sent along to me via e-mail is AUTOMATICALLY WRONG until proved otherwise!"    The collarary to my rule is the addition "Especially when seen on FBO!"
I don't search webistes like Snopes and many other to find out if something is false, i just search the internet nowadays to try to find out if something is true or not or evenb contains a bit of truth spun or taken out of context.  Haven't kept score, but guessing that well over 90% turns out NOT to be true.
The bad part of it is the number of people who believe so much stuff that can't be true, and even when its pointed out that it ISN'T true, still continue to post comments indicating that they still believe it!    I used to think that was funny, but now i find it quite a sobering thought regarding the future of the country.

Yep, keep believing there arent more takers than makers, it just cant be true because snopes said so. Just ignore the national debt clock, all the red numbers cant be right, especially the debt per citizen and the debt per taxpayer figures. Keep on handing out the "free" money to the unfortunate people like dawg experienced. Those 11 states are just fine financially, no need to change anything, except maybe tax the taxpayers more. Its all BS, just move along people and get back to work.

What percentage of blacks, mexicans and native americans are on welfare or in prison vs. whites?

What percentage of those voted for obama/democrat?

What happens when it floods in ND?  Snows in ND?  People get together and help each other. What happens when it floods in Louisiana or snowstorms in NY?  They loot, steal, shoot each other and beg for help.

So what you're saying bobkat is that you don't believe cable dawg about his own personal  experience?   You don't believe Obozo promised to cut the national debt in half?  You don't believe the deficit and national debt continue to spiral higher and higher far out of control?   You don't believe we have a growing unemployment problem in this country?  You can't believe the tyranical direction the socialist clown in office is taking us is by design?

Amazing how the typical leftist will take liberal propaganda at face value but anything conservative or anything that might make Obozo look like the incompetent clown he is MUST be a lie.

your own rebutal says it is not exacly true so to speak, but if you include those that work for the government, State, Federal, or City, it is not far off.. that is why so mant states are in trouble.  Most government payrolls are funded by taxes paid by folks working in the private sector. Granted government workers pay taxes too but that pretty much goes back into the fund that paid them in the first place.

When half of the country works for the government they usually end up doing just what the government say's because that is where their bread is buttered.

I believe one of the problems is that years ago the assets test was removed and it's now mostly based on just income.  So, if you show low income you can be eligible even though you could be worth millions.  I think it was removed because they said the cost of staff to check and verify the assets portion was more than what they thought it saved.

Best thing a person can do if they see someone they think is abusing the system is to report it.  If you saw someone breaking into your house and ripping you off you'd call it in.  This is no different in my opinion.  If they're cheating their stealing from you.  Just look at the amount you paid in Federal and state taxes on your tax filing.  That's where the money came from.

I think the gov't should bill the cost of these benefits to those non-custodial daddies or mommies.

In 1995, Cato published The Work vs. Welfare Trade-Off, which examined the value of welfare benefits in every state. They found that, in 40 states, welfare paid more than $8 an hour; in 17 states, welfare paid more than $10 an hour. Tanner, the principal author of that study, decided to reexamine the numbers in the context of 2013.

In Cato’s new 2013 study, welfare paid more than $10 an hour in 33 states; 17 paid less than $8 an hour. Comparing the two data sets and accounting for inflation, 18 states saw a decline in the total value of welfare benefits; 32 states and the District of Columbia saw increases.

Tanner and Hughes award the national welfare championship to Hawaii, which offers $60,590 in annual welfare benefits, once you account for the fact that welfare benefits are tax-free to the recipient, compared to work-related wages. That’s the equivalent of $29.13 an hour. Rounding out the top five were D.C. ($50,820 per year and $24.43 an hour), Massachusetts ($50,540 and $24.30), Connecticut ($44,370 and $21.33), and New York ($43,700 and $21.01).

States with the lowest welfare benefits were Idaho ($11,150 and $5.36), Mississippi ($11,830 and $5.69), Tennessee ($12.120 and $5.83), Arkansas ($12,230 and $5.88), and Texas ($12,550 and $6.03).
