UP28PV FLX-28 Ultra Pack with ProView Ice-Ducer

FLX-28 Ultra Pack with ProView Ice-Ducer

FLX-28 Ultra Pack with ProView Ice-Ducer

The features found in the FLX-28 read like the wish list of avid ice anglers starting with digital depth, Auto Range, Two zoom zones, battery status, FIVE color palettes to select from for maximum visibility, five foot depth range adjustments starting at 10 feet, Maximum range of 300, Day and Night display brightness settings, Low power options for fishing in super shallow water, a unique Weed Mode for better performance while fishing in weeds. And to top it all off, the unit even has its own Demo mode so you can show non-Vexilar fans how the system works with a lifelike fish catching simulation to watch.

There are more features to the FLX-28 series than ever before inside a single flasher sonar system. When fans of Vexilar say we could never improve the FL-8 that we introduced over 20 years ago, they were amazed when the FL-18 hit the ice in 2002. By the time the new flat screen FL-12 and 20 came out, Vexilar had established a new gold standard in flasher performance. Surely, Vexilar could not improve on this? Welcome to the age of the FLX series! A unique brushless data transfer design system allows for the creation of a breakthrough flasher display with digital depth and Auto Ranging technology. The features found in the FLX-28 read like the wish list of avid Ice Anglers starting with digital depth, Auto Range, Two zoom zones, FIVE color palettes to select from for maximum visibility, five foot depth range adjustments starting at 10 feet, Maximum range of 300, Day and Night display brightness settings, Low power options for fishing in super shallow water, a unique Weed Mode for better performance while fishing in weeds. And to top it all off, the unit even has its own Demo mode so you can show non-Vexilar fans how the system works with a lifelike fish catching simulation to watch. The FLX-28 is totally revolutionary in the world of winter flasher sonar technology. Vexilar has come a long way from the early FL-8, but Vexilar has never changed their commitment to deliver the very best sonar systems in the world for over 50 years. Performance, quality, innovation and reliability…
Welcome to the amazing FLX-28.

The Ultra Pack is the ideal name for the most feature packed ice fishing system ever offered by Vexilar. The Ultra Pack system’s innovation begins with a 12 volt, 9 amp-hour battery enclosed inside the case, so you don’t need to connect or disconnect your battery after each use. A master power switch powers up your unit and remote charging posts make it easy to re-charge. The case comes with an adjustable rod holder, cable storage cleats, battery charger and even your own Vexilar tackle box! The super tough Ultra Pack will fit into a five gallon bucket. An optional soft pack carrying case is also available. The Ultra Pack comes completely assembled, individually tested and ready to fish with. It also includes an instructional video.

What do you guys think about this unit from a first impression? It seems pretty cool, but I still think that the Marcum LX-7 might still be ahead of it. Will be interesting to see it in action on the ice.

I like nobs better than beeping buttons, but the LX-7 and 9 look fancier.

Had the marcum. Did not like it.  A pretty screen didn't cut it for me. Plus need the 9 to stand a chance for outside anglers and the 7 weighed plenty already and was cumbersome to grab and go.

Had this vex unit been available last year I would have bought it over the bird I bought.

Wish I hadn't clicked on this thread. Giving myself every BS excuse on why I might need one of these. I don't, but lie to yourself enough times and you may eventually believe it. Looks like a cool machine.

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

Don't mind my bird at all, but I may be putting mine up for sale to try and get some recoup money for the 28.

Agreed. Watch him fish with Chubby Darters sometime, you'll feel younger than that.

Everything about it seems pretty nice, but the digital readout looks pretty tacky compared to Marcum and Hummingbird. I wish Vexilar had put it in the center of the dial where their logo is like the other brands do, and made a nicer readout.

With 4 FL-8's, 3 FL-18's, 2 FL-20's, and now I'm sure I'll just have to have an FL-28 or two.  I think I'm becoming a Vexilar hoarder.

ill stick with the lx5 for now. just turn on and fish (and piss off nearby vexi's) no low power mode needed in shallow water either. 2 things i wish i could change would be a dimmer switch for low light fishing, and 10ft depth increments.

Yeah I am curious on the readout location.  The problem I have with the 'Bird is it doesn't always read depth digitally right.  Really annoying when it has its "fits" when you are going hole to hole checking depths on initial drilling.  Could just as well go back to staring at the dial trying to figure out 2x, 3x and yadda yadda.

I have owned 3 vexilars in my life. An FL18 and currently two FL22's. My 18 has worked by far better than either of the 22's. I have returned 3 22's. As much as I would like to buy A new 28 I'm afraid it won't be reliable. Man I miss my FL18 (bowhunter_24)

I have been in love with my FL-18 for the last 13 years.  She is really special to me.

I also heart my Fl-18.  She has been through some rough outings and still puts fish on the ice.  I might need a new set of brushes just to freshen it up and call it good.  My wife's fl-18 marks better than mine, but mine is also 13 years older.

Buy one Kraft!

It comes with the new pro ducer.  That ducer goes from 8 degree to 40+ degrees and is adjustable just by using your gain knob.  Mine showed up several weeks ago.  It looks pretty....flashy.

FL-18's are good machines.  The FL-20 is simalar in setup, thus the 8 at the end.  I sold my FL-20 to a good friend.  That's not something I normally like to do, but that machine ran flawless every time I used it.  I'm just a sucker for new technology.

So far my take on the 28 is that it's still built basically the same, but has several more good options.  Honestly the price being 640ish is really not bad.  The pro ducer by itself is 120.  The digital depth and battery gauge is 50 bucks.  I paid around 600 when I bought my FL-20 Anniversary pack quite a few years ago.

I can't wait to use it.

From my understanding, the 22's had a lot more issues than any other flasher they've made.  I've also had several people tell me they love them...

This might be wrong. The transducer will automatically switch over when it gets deeper then 30ft of water. Its a 9-30 degree cone. I have the pro view ducer for my 20 and it automatically switches for me. I cant imagine the gain switch doing 2 jobs at once. (sensitivity and cone angle) I may be wrong though.....

Honestly, you made me do my homework again.  haha
From my understanding, the proview is totally different in functionality to any other ducer Vexilar makes.  I believe what I said in my previous comment was accurate.  If you watch the video, basically the last minute or two he explains it quite well.

Let me know if you still disagree, but that's how I understand it.

I called vexilar and my local Scheels store. They both said that the ducer will automatically change the cone angle when they water depth is deeper then 30ft. The gain switch is still only used for sensitivity and interference. Im still confused though cause the video seems to say otherwise..... Who knows, guess I have to buy one and find out how it works ha

It comes with the new pro ducer.  That ducer goes from 8 degree to 40+ degrees and is adjustable just by using your gain knob.  Mine showed up several weeks ago.  It looks pretty....flashy.

If it is how you explain it, I'm pissed at the Vexilar for making this video.  I would have never bought a pro ducer if that's the case.  I would have bought a tri beam.  I guess I'll see how it functions in a few weeks and decide.

The pro view ducer is way better then the tri beam in my honest opinion. I talked to Jason Mitchell at the MN State Fair about it and he said that the fl-18 on up with the pro view ducer is the best set up. He told me "you dont need to buy the 28, the 20 with the pro view ducer is the most practical for most people"

I don't know anything about the FLX-28 features but to my understanding the Proview iceducer is only a renamed existing 9 degree iceducer...  Maybe there is another newer iceducer with 'Pro' in its name I am not aware of...

Below is a link to a year old or so Vexilar Zenanko video (almost 1/2 hour) going into more detail about iceducers including the Proview, and how gain control affects what is shown on the flasher...

Actually, if you watch the video, the crystals make it different from the old standard 9 degree by the way they can control the sound lobes.

If you watch the 25 minute video, it does break down the pro ducer quite well.  He again says nothing about an automatic switch of cone angle at a certain depth.
