Word of warning. Be very careful on Audobon right now. Found an area of ice less than 1 inch thich that was about the size of a small car right at the mouth of nelson bay. Found it after we had set up the portable house on saturday morning. Walked right past it in the dark and didnt even notice until it got light out. I marked it with a red coffee can. There is also open water in various locations along the east shore of the bay. Otherwise ice is still about 12 inches and overall is still good ice. But there are definately some weak spots, so if your driving ANYTHING out there, use caution. There are still people driving vehicles on the ice, but no way in heck would I be driving out there.
Fishing was pretty slow. Caught 6 small walleyes (no keepers) and a nice perch. |

Hey folks. Went up to nelson bay this weekend to check ice and make sure everything works for the season. ice was 4-6 inches thick, there were spots that were a little softer ice but there was a guy driving a fourwheeler all over the place. as far as the fishing goes, we caught a lot of 12 inchers. did manage a couple 14's for supper and most importantly the trial run of the equipment was a success. I have been seeing what I think are schools of cisco on my flasher. They usually have been coming through after sunset, suspended in about 8-12 FOW. If this is what these actually are, I wonder if that is having some effect on the walleye's appetite right now?

Fished Nelson Bay today from noon to 6. The ice was 5.25 in thick. It was a lot of work to get through with the hand auger. There were about 5 other groups of people out there too. There was a guy doing a fishing survey and it didn't sound like people were catching much. Didn't take any fish home. Fished 6-17ft from noon to 6.
