ND Trax

I just read the topic on nd trax and didnt quite get the question i have answered. For those of you out there with it, when you see a lake do the contours lines show up when zoomed in on it or is that something you have to specify you want when you order. I could see where this would be very handy when fishing when you pull up to the lake and the coutours are there but then when you leave all the plots and wpa's are marked too instead of trying to figure out where you are in a plots book. Any feedback would be very helpful. And this would most likely be used in a lowrance h2o, or a h2oc depending if i upgrade to color or not. and does it even work in a non color unit?

Yes, the lake contours show up when you zoom in and they are included in the chip.  You can use it in a non-color GPS also.  Korey's website will show you what is included in the chips.  Very great product and recommend it 100%.

"When we step into the outdoors, we have the privilege of standing in the presence of God through the power and majesty of His creation. That makes hunting more than a sport or a hobby. It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground."

Lakemaster and Navionics have the exact same data as Trax.  The exception is Lakemaster used the Devils Lake NDGF data and "made" it one foot contours.  Also, Lakemaster had a bay surveyed and Trax does not have access to that data.  I forget what bay it is.  Oh and apparently Lakemaster has some culverts marked on their chip as well.  This data could easily be added to Trax.  Custom mapping is powerful.

As for the difference with Navionics and Trax the only difference is Lake Sakakawea.  Navionics has exclusive rights to their data since it was not a public survey.

Not if you don't like hunting or have any desire to have any type of land based (normal GPS) data.

Does Trax have land use mapped?   Like agricultural, slough, pasture etc?

If you wanted it, I bet Korey could make it happen.  But no, it is not a default service provided.

Ok, I will jump in here and help Tim out. Thanks for helping to answer many of the questions.

hoytvetrix as Tim said it will show the lake contours, public lands, roads, trails, section lines, township, range and section number, streams, and so much more. The different features show as you zoom and are optimized to do so. You don't want or need to see lake contours at 100 miles for instance as they aren't useful and just  slow down the GPS. Also, it will work on both color and grayscale GPS units. You are also correct that the 2011 chips (which are available for ND) are Endura compatible as well. If you haven't bought a GPS yet though, give me a call and I can talk you through the pros and cons of many units (701) 261-9017. I don't sell GPS units but have helped thousands find the right one for them.

Simmsjs,
NDTRAX is an all-around sportsmen map and LakeMaster and Navionics are fishing maps. As Tim mentioned, Navionics has Sak and NDTRAX doesn't and their map is only approx. 48 feet off at this point since the lake is so high. Tim mentioned LakeMaster doing some additional work on Devils Lake for more contours and this is correct. However, my data was also just pulled from the Game and Fish who adjusted the lake levels so mine is more current. If all you do is fish Devils Lake, then LakeMaster may be a great option. As my data is more current and I have more total lakes, then NDTRAX may be the best option for you.

3xGutshot, no the trax maps don't show agricultural differentiation. However, you could buy NDTRAX PC which overlays the TRAX maps on top of Google Earth and see what type of land it is via Google Earth. It will show you about everything else you would ever want to see. When you start putting agricultural data on a GPS map, you begin to introduce a lot of extra data, lines, and other factors that can really affect GPS performance and map readability.

Shorthairsrus, if you are asking what is the best map to use for bird hunting, there is no question. The answer is a TRAX map and if you are referring to hunting in ND, it would be NDTRAX. There is no other map that has all the elements of a TRAX map. The 2011 version also includes private land ownership for Cass, Pembina, Morton, Montrail, and Williams counties and that list keeps growing as more and more counties are starting to move their PLAT data online. My Montana version has all private land ownership listed for the entire state.

NDTRAX is the only GPS mapping system that offers a 100% money back guarantee. It is the only GPS mapping system covering Fishing, Hunting, Transportation, Hiking, Biking and more on one map. It is one of the most affordable mapping products. It is the only GPS mapping system I am aware of with a $20 update policy, and  it is the only sportsmen mapping system created by a ND company, by a ND sportsman, designed for ND sportsmen.

Sorry for the long post, but I think I covered all the questions.

I have had this product from Korey for several years now and absolutely love it for ND.

The only thing you need to keep in mind with lake contours is it also depends on the GPS unit you are using.

I have a Navionics chip in my boat which never leaves it…I purchased Korey’s chip for my H2O then I upgraded to a Garmin Nuvi…I use this more for hunting than fishing…it does work goods for ice fishing as well however I did notice a difference in the contour lines from going from my H2O to my Nuvi which is no big deal since I got the Nuvi primarily to stay primarily in my vehicle anyways

NDTRAX has 172 fishing lakes in ND. However, Sak, Lake Oaha and the Missouri River system is not included. These change so much from year to year, the ND Game and Fish has not depth checked these systems. I pull my data from their data they get from on the water surveying. I end up having more lakes because I pull the data more often than the other vendors. The basic outlines are included and ramps, etc but not the depths. Audubon is included but this is the only one on the system. Besides these, you should be good to go. I don't have the 2011 NDTRAX Lake list on the website , but it will be posted soon. Keep in mind, the lakes are a bonus as there is no other system that has the roads, trails, lands, section lines, ownership, etc and it happens to also have the lakes.

No, TRAX maps do not work in Hummingbird depth finders at this time. Their map format is different from Lowrance and Garmin. Sorry I didn't catch the "Bird Unit" comment and I took it to mean Bird Hunting. Sorry about that.
