ND state record nontypical whitetail in Bowhunter mag.

Anybody read the story of the big nontypical taken last year? Check it out. Good read and really puts a spin on the stories I have heard and read about. Gotta say congrats to the guy and his family.

This was a great story! I see how this is something that is only get worse with these big outdoor tv hunting shows. Note to all if you have a big buck in your area to be very tight liped. Congrats on that Buck!

It was at one time in the gallery, however I am not sure if it is still there.

Real dandy of a buck.

I suppose the story in the magazine makes it sound like quite the hunt. Probably makes it out to be the hunt of a lifetime, instead of the more mundane hunt that it likely was......

The story is in the Aug/Sept issue of Bowhunter magazine. It tells of a group of hunters that have been watching a big buck for a number of years and then made the mistake of showing their neighbor video footage of it. Who then put out cornpiles and started calling hunting shows and big names trying to sell the rights to shoot it. The story ended well with them harvesting the buck with other hunters surrounding them. The hunt itself for this great buck was rather anticlimatic and the deer really wasn't given the justice due it. It just shows how greed and jealousy has affected the sport we love! From my understanding there was alot of other problems that weren't listed in the story, including a supposed fist fight and trespassing among other things! Hopefully neighborly love and respect will kick in and a realization that how some of this was handled was rather ridiculous! Still a terrific buck and congratulation on harvesting a world class animal!

Is this the buck? Weren't the Drury Outdoors guys trying to shoot it too or something?
Definitely best to keep very quiet about something like this in your area, but you know someone is going to see it and start talking eventually.

That's the buck I initially was thinking of.  The other buck is down in the Gwinner / Forman country which is written about in the Bowhunter Mag.

Ahhhh, my bad. So we're talking about the huge nontypical shot by an out of stater over an outfitter's 30 ton pile of corn? What a thrilling hunt that must have been.

No, the photo above is the buck that was shot by Jim Castro of West Virginia over a pile of bait near Watford City. The buck in the story I wrote is the "Bosse Buck." It was taken by Bruce Bosse in the southeastern part of the state and beat out Castro's buck as the state record nontypical.

Bruce shot his buck on opening day 2007. He called the game warden an hour after taking the buck trying to head off all the rumors but evidently that didn't work. Read the story instead of unsubstantiated rumors.

Its a big buck, but why draw attention to our sate like that? I've seen TV shows where that Raplph and Vicky hunt some beat pile south of Devils lake. Made it look like 140 class bucks came in by the dozens almost, not good...can you say sell out.

the buck this thread was started about is the velvet non-typical taken down in the SE part of the state last season. Ralph and Vicky hunt, i believe, down around the valley city or jamestown area. but no, none of these buck pictures are of the actual deer in the article

Well, the one Murdock is posting pics of also made it into a Bowhunter publication: North American Whitetail and I attached the website for the that article.

Anyone have the article for this Bosse buck?

i didn't realize both bucks made it in bowhunter. haven't had a subscription for about a year. the stories i've heard so far make the Bosse buck hunt sound like a much better hunt.

Ya both bucks are in the mag, the Castro buck there was no mention of any heated house blinds and blue barrelled feeders in its article.
Curt gotta say that was a good article.

The Castro buck was not in Bowhunter Magazine as far as I know. It did appear in North American Whitetail, another Intermedia publication.

Thanks for the comment Archer109.

thats a beautiful buck but... i heard it was taged with his buddys uncles doe tage and he was sitting in an air conditiond shack when he harvested the animal with a hatchet with only 2 feathers on the handle. the deer was apparently tied to a tree and being baited with 56,784lbs of beets!!! i hope he is proud of his trophy! i know i would be!

Just so everyone is aware, Ralph and Vicky's outfitter they use is by Cooperstown, just east of there....Sorry but the outfitters are family friends of cousins of mine...You all should see the picture of a buck taken near Cooperstown last year, family had never seen it before.......It was beautiful, if I could figure out how to upload on here I would

and yes that is where ralph and vicki hunt. It is David and John Brandt that own double b outfitters. They buy their tags from the gas station in McHenry.
