I have a 2 year old GSP she has always liked her kennel untill a couple of weeks ago. I left for work when i got home she had the door off the kennel. So i made a new door that she could not get her teeth into. When i got home today she had a hole chewed in the side of the kennel and was out. Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas to fix this.

When you say kennel are you talking a outside kennel or a pet porter type kennel.

Don't put her in the kennel.   My ESP is now 8 and hasn't been in his kennel since he was 2 unless it was in the pickup after a day of hunting.  His bed is in the dining room and he stays in there overnight.  Then again, Jake has never been a chewer or a destuctive type of dog.  He is a typical Springer with high energy but he knows when bedtime is and he stays put.

tough situation when you have to leave her 8 to 10 hours in a pet porter. She is chewing out of boredom.  I would get a bigger area if at all possable.

Exactly!! Higher strung dogs will have issues if they're kenneled for long periods of time! Not fair to the dog!!!! Plus you'll end up with other behavioral issues!!

My 12 year old Weimeraner is laying by my side. She chewed through 3 $70 dollar pet-porters and one door. Once it was established that she was needed and that you will come home; she settled down. You need to find a happy medium between nice puppy and come here you dumb SOB. You have the first part down because the dog is chewing its way out to find you. Establish a timeline for togetherness at some point in the day. DO NOT let her sleep in your bed. Give her free run over her food and water. Beyond that; everything you need to know, you should simply be able to look into her eyes.

One step at a time...Be careful.

my dog has chewed, jimmied locks, crawled over a 6 foot fences, moved my pool cover and swam in the pool  during the day, reached in my refigerator and took my beer--- you name it - a GSP is going to do it.  Its like ferris buehler day off for a shorthair.
You need to build an outdoor/indoor kennel with a run for day use.   Put a top on it.  Lock it dont just hang the lock on the door.  The insides are to be screened drywall so she cant paw though it.  Cement bottom so she can dig herself out.   Wire top so she cant crawl out.  Heat the portion that she sleeps in.   Light up any weak areas with electric fence - make it a prison but a nice prison.  Hang pics of pheasants up inside.   I also have a small flat screen tv inside the kennel that is screened that  she can watch tuned to the outdoor channel 24/7.

Stay thirsty my friends

Hey short.thats pretty funny, good stuff, man the price we pay to have a great field dog huh?

My 3 month old retriever is lucky,he has the run of a 24'x12' 3 season porch to hang out in while I'm at work, hot days and t-storms I confine him to the kitchen using kiddy gates and lots to chew sticks/bones and stuff critters to keep him occupied during the day.

Your dog does not have a problem, well, maybe.  His owner is cruel and does not give a shit about him.  IF he did, he would not lock him up every day for 2 years in a portable kennel.  How would you like it???  WTF....  Give the dog to someone that would care about him.  These dogs are hyper and need lots of room.  I feel sorry for the pup.

brutal but honest.. i agree. a grown dog has NO business locked in a crate. i watched a friend keep his lab in a crate for 7 years. thing looked like some kinda mutant. train your dog to be obediant when home alone or give it to someone who will.. nuff said

I take it fatboy must not have a job and gets to stay home with his dog all day. If my dog would not eat everything in my house i would have her loose. I left her loose today and she didnt get into anything so ill see what happens. I can say my dog is out running with me a lot more than most dogs are mine runs a couple miles everyday not to mention an hour of catch with her also.

I've had *2* GSPs and did not have problems with them.  Training works, they are hyper, but very trainable.  AND, I wish I had another one, BUT I would not force him/her to live in these cramped quarters I'm now in.  I care about animals....

And as far as being home all day, Yes, I am, suxs to be disabled and not able to work.

Does the dog have anxiety/separation anxiety problems.  There are meds for it if that may be the case.

YES, I am that foolish!
