Muskie Info.

Me and a buddy are wanting to try and tackle a muskie or two with fly gear.  I am not an avid musky guy, but it is high on my list of species to catch on the fly.  As far as I can tell from the research I have done on the subject, the september full moon is one of the best times of the year.  Here is my question, what time of year is the overall best period to take them up on top?
Thanks in advance.

Musky will hit topwater during the entire summer months - it all depends on the weather conditions, water temp and majors.  Late September was fantastic but the weather cooperated. The water temps, that had been in the upper 70's dropped to the low 70's and the weather was stable.  We're talking top water with lots on noise.  And, to hold true, you had to feel the fish on your line before you set the hook. Don't set the hook just because the fish explodes on the bait. We had two that hit at it 3 times before we could set the hook.

the ST croix river in eastern minnesota is prime for muskies, my mom got a 13 pounder there in '96, and with me on her back!
