Murder in New Town?

I was wondering why there hasn't been much talk about the murder that happened in the New Town area.  I believe it was a couple of days ago, maybe I missed the coverage.  I heard a man gave another a ride and the passanger (stranger) slit the drivers throat and was about to torch the vehicle when he got caught.  Any info?

I was wondering the same thing.  Not sure on the details, but I've seen some  "memorials" on Facebook.

If it happened on the res there is a good chance that it will not hit the new media outlets.  A lot of things that happen on the reservations never make the news.  Kinda like Vegas, what happens there, stays there.

true that.  most press releases you see from the rez come from the feds or the state from some joint prosecution.  the tribe's themselves very seldom do a press release from crimes that are only investigated and prosecuted just tribally.  they have no interest in providing more bad news to the press.

US attorney looking into death on ND reservation

The U.S. attorney's office in North Dakota says it is looking into a death on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. Thirty-year-old Jeremiah Sage, of Halliday, died Thursday in New Town.

BISMARCK — The U.S. attorney's office in North Dakota says it is looking into a death on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

Thirty-year-old Jeremiah Sage, of Halliday, died Thursday in New Town.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon on Tuesday confirmed the investigation, but declined to release any further details.

Cousin Brad Sage, of Mandaree, told The Associated Press members of the family were meeting with authorities Tuesday afternoon to learn about the circumstances of the death.

Sage says he last talked with Jeremiah about nine days ago, and his cousin didn't indicate then that anything was wrong.

Bureau of Indian Affairs offices in New Town and Aberdeen, S.D., referred questions to the BIA's Washington, D.C. office. Spokeswoman Nedra Darling did not immediately return a phone message.

You, would be the one incapable of differentiating between an apology and an accusation of a cover up.        Tool....

Allen,  come on.   Class and the tribe shouldn't be in the same sentence.   I'm very close to some in the media and "the tribe" is notorious for shutting out the media for obvious reasons.    They have their little "sovereign nation" but always have their hand out,  they like to hide their problems and then tout native pride.   The whole reservation idea is a welfare joke and should be demolished.   I think the Federal Govt has screwed it up enough and ruined generations of native americans.

Since when is hiding murder respectable?   I agree with cycnical.  The reservations are old and an 18th century idea.  It would hurt people to abolish them  in an instant, but I think support should be dropped at ten percent per year until the native people simply become part of society.  If they want to remain a sovereign nation then let them get a visa to visit the United States.  All the reservations do is continue to demean a people, and hold them dependent.  Can't we get beyond the frontier mentality.

I spent my early youth on a reservation.   Alcohol and drugs are rampant, but they deny it.  Until they face their problems it's only going to get worse.

Simply amazing.  A thread starts about a murder, and by the bottom of the first page it turns to reservation bashing.

I have spent a lot of time on the Pine Ridge Res.and drugs and booze are a big problem, but I also have been to East St. Louis and South Centeral LA many times and really don't see much difference.   The NA has been lied to many times by the Federal Government so many times with broken treatys, Thier lands taken from them and you say THEY should get a visa?    There is a town on the Pine Ridge called Allen,I have more respect for than Allen that post on here.

" Can't we get beyond the frontier mentality"  Thats pretty hard to do when you way of life, and your heritage, is taken from you by the Federal Government over many years.

Who interduced the NA to booze?

I find it funny how we still have the whole "poor Native Americans, we took everything from them and ruined them and their way of life" mentality.  The Romans and how many other civilizations conquered and were conquered by other "peoples" throughout history?  Why don't we shed a tear for them too?  Do we pitty the Native Americans beacause they were one of the last "Peoples" that were conquered?  People have fought and taken land from other people all across the world at some point in time or another.  All we are doing now is ensuring their destruction by giving handouts and not empowering them with their own will to make something of themselves.

Agreed , we did do a disservice to the NA . There never should have been treaties signed in the 1st place . Wasn't their way of life that whoever could take whatever and keep it that's the way it is . We did't take their land in a lot of cases as it wasn't their's in the 1st place . They just happened to be in that location at the time . They didn't pay for it or pay to keep it . Guessing alot of people on here would actually enjoy that philosophy . Follow the seasons and herd and survival of the fittest . Can't compare todays world with the past . Yet we will continue this rut were in forever .

Even better, the story appears in the Associated Press and the tribe is "covering it up" or "sweeping it under the rug".  Not very good at either if the AP is reporting it.

Your friends make you weak and your enemies make you strong.  That's an old NA thought.  They were right.   Liberals just can't get it through their head.

Here is a news clip from a fellow called huntin1 on another site.  Evidently the government understands bears, but not people.
