Minot police investigating multiple homicides

January 28, 2011

The Minot Police Department responded to two Minot residences one in south Minot and one in southeast Minot Friday afternoon to investigate homicides, which appear to be related.

Information released by the department indicated officers from the Minot Police Department and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation are involved in the investigation.

Law enforcement has located a person of interest, who is being questioned. The police department does not believe the general public is in danger.

And now the RUMOR just a RUMOR is that some guy is driving around town in a red mustang going around trailer parks and killing people. The RUMOR is the death total is 7.

So you got a bite...You detected the bite...You set the hook and the line is tight...And now your in for a fight...But whose gonna win?

if this is true i have to say sorry first and then wow... what the heck is going on! absolutely disgusting! maybe we need to start locking our doors.. have not had to for 100 years.... i know ive had my beef with NR's, but the murder trial today in Fargo with the dentist, he was from oklahoma, Wyndmere ND about the bar was from MN, The Cooperstown murderor from California, Mo Gibbs, and Alfonso Rodriguez.. disgusting! when do we realize that progress is not really progress.. Sure they may pay some income taxes for a month or two but then they go and wreck everything we have stood for and worked for and the reason many of us are still here.. Sorry.. all of this crap going on in my backyard just really hits home. and I dont like it. if they never drilled another rig or had another farmer ( down by Oakes) bring someone that they couldnt speak englinsh too or find the help up here, well then maybe they are moving way too fast! I love this state just hate seeing the dollar drive everything we do. wish every house was worth $30,000 again I guess.. call me old fashioned!

Classic example of a poor economy bring the worst in the nation to out little slice of stable heaven.  Make sure you speak up to Law Enforcement when you see things and make it a point to "REALLY" get to know the new folks coming into town.  Get your lazy kids out to work jobs so these undesirable criminals don't get a foot hold around here.  Minot has the air base to thank for a lot of problems and wouldn't be terribly suprised to find this was related.  Keep an eye for people that look like "gangstas" because if it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck...

If anyone is offended by this I don't care.  Sidney MT was a really nice town and now it's a dump.  Don't let it spread out of Williston.

Yeah, it's kind of like that.

Just heard the news.  There were four murders in Minot.  They said they were "related".  By that they may mean they were done by the same person.   They have a person of interest and the public is not in danger.  The cops weren't giving much info on a new confrence they did.

What I don't like about the way these crimes are handled is that you hear about how many people were murdered but you never hear the circumstances as in was it gang related, domestic dispute, robbery or whatever. I think the public needs to know this stuff for our own safety. Like the shooting that took place in Mandan this summer all I ever heard was rumors floating around with no real proof of anything.  Police interveiws in the paper certainly didn't reveal anything. I understand that certain things cannot be disclosed at certain times but it seems like time goes by and everyone just seems to forget about it without anything being said ever.

Agree Intro,  North Dakota is wierd that way.  It is not  professional in my opinion.  I Spent time on a few projects close to or in large cities,  The top cops would do interviews as soon as the media got on the scene . They did a good job of keeping the public informed. And would ask if anyone had information to please call the number on the screen.   Around here they dont say a thing.

I suppose I better put a response to my post.  I surely didn't mean to accuse anyone in particular as I don't know the issues at work here.  That said the military has had an influx of rough characters recently and they are bringing a lot troublesome folks with them.  I hope that clears the air of what I said before, posted in the middle of dinner and was a bit shocked and didn't proof read.  My Dad was USAF for a full career and I wear a uniform for a living now so please do relax.

Now if there are any disagreements with the rest of my post lets hear it.  I'd sure debate the rest of what I had to say in a logical discussion.  Bowhunter1527, Geo, HuntDux, Frosty, go ahead and unload.  Bowhunter I'd like to know what part of me is the problem exactly, please.

Yeah, it's kind of like that.

They are? From what I could find, ND averages 8 murders a year. The most was 22 in 1993, only 2 in 2008.

It says in the Fargo Forum ND averages 11 murders per year.

anyways my 2 cents on all this from 270 miles away, is it is probably drug related, Most violent crimes commited are over drugs, now this is not for sure obviously  there could be other circumstances.  Murders are not common occurance here in ND 11 a year is not common.
also like was mentioned before releasing to much info can harm a case and they are obviously going to say no worry to the public so they don't have every dick and jane running around carrying a gun, they do not want panic right now.
I am eager to hear what happened, must be a crazy scene right now in Minot.

there's lots of reasons PD can't release details this early in a major investigation, none of them explained by any lack of competence. we'd scream later if the case went unsolvable or was tainted because of some stupid disclosure. when questioning suspects, it doesn't help if details known by the suspect were public knowledge; limits interrogation levererage. all we need to know at this point: are they still at large/public endangered (no, that was answered).  we'll get more when it's ok to get more.

There has been a bunch of break-ins in Minot in the last few months as well.  There is no question there are some bad folks here for the boom.  Not saying that's who did this but lately all the crime happening from here to williston has been move in people involved.

Geo I think what rain said is a common statement from any resident.  Your right there are many fine men and women that have moved in to work at the air force base.  Any time that you have people moving in the area from out of state though we tend to push blame towards them.  The reason for this is the people of this state tend to be pretty honest and our crime history has been very quiet.

Gary, Indiana is a prime example of what can happen when a boom moves to town.  How bad do things have to be before you declare marshall law on a city of less that 150,000 people.  Its hard to hate money, but its even harder to see crime ramp up.

Agreed.  Sheriff Dupnick may have buggered that whole case by his talking too much to the press too early.  Whether folks agree or disagree with him it's far too early in the process for offering up his opinion in public.

Starting @ 1:20 or so he makes the prosecutor's job much more difficult IMO.

Just a quick read for anyone who wants to...  Many of the new found problems are coming from folks that moved in from out of the area.  This does NOT make everyone looking to find a job from out of the area BAD.  What I did want to make everyone aware of is the fact that security falls on ourselves and knowing if the people coming into the area are good or bad.  Don't be shy about it, it's your home and family that can come at risk.  Let your local Law Enforcement know what you see if it seems suspicious.  I'm also not advocating for a witch hunt either.

Yeah, it's kind of like that.

Rianman, yes the military does have some bad apples but they do a lot of good for minot and the surrounding communities. Its 18 year olds just getting out on their own for the first time. Just like most college kids they will tend to do dumb things and cause a little bit of trouble, but by no means are they murderers and or killers. You cant tell me when you were younger you didn't cause a little bit of trouble.

Well, if you're going to kill someone, why not ND?  You can do it here and not even face the death penalty.

This is just a horrible situation.  I have no idea what the circumstances are, but nobody wins.  The families of all suffer.  It's just a sad deal.  I truly hope that people realize from this that the cops can't protect you, instead of being hoodwinked into believing we need more regulation on firearms.

Hunter,

I agree with you fully.  Anyone who didn't cause a little trouble when they were younger probably lead a boring life.  None the less I wanted to point out that there are many wolves in sheeps clothing.  This northern area ND/MT has had a very good, honest, tight knit community from day one.  People are accepting and helpful.  That doesn't mean all others have the best of intentions when coming in the area.

Looking back I found the article I was referencing on my first post.  Geo called me out already as my first posting was directly pointing a finger at military personnel.  Hopefully reading back that will have been rectified.

Yeah, it's kind of like that.

Classy Rainman, Real classy.

I wish I knew who you were, maybe I could show you a thing or two about class. I'm guessing you are judging the "air base" by some personal experiences where an airman came and took you girl friend from under your own arm and showed her a better time than you could have. Why do you dislike the base so much? Too much riff raff out there? Well, that’s the same riff raff that deploy overseas to defend you and everyone else on here. I just don't get it, but you seem pretty stubborn, so I'm not trying to change your mind. May god bless the family involved in this tragic occurrence, and may god be with you all.
