Photo Description:
Well as some of you may know it was my daughters first year of hunting. What a wonderful time it was. I thought I had another year to prepare for this day but with the new age law it was off to hunter’s safety for her. We were lucky enough to draw as a party on our antelope tags. I did allot of scouting on my trips to and from elk hunting. I found that the goat numbers were lower than they had been but did spot some nice bucks. With the use Kirsch’s maps I was able to contact some landowners to obtain permission. The wide buck I had spotted for Jordan to try and take was always on the border of property that I couldn't hunt so my plan was to work from that fence line in.
Opening day was a cool cloudy wet morning not perfect antelope spotting weather. As we approached the fence line we met another truck checking the same pasture. As we neared the fence line I spotted the herd of goats about a mile off feeding toward the fence. Knowing this was our only chance with the wind in our favor. Jordan and I stayed low in a draw working to the top of a knob. Hoping they would keep feeding to us I had Jordan on my right goats coming from the left. Well that’s exactly what happened. They feed up the hill instead of staying in the draw bellow us. I could hear foot steps off to my left and behind I told Jordan to move around in front of me and to be ready. Well that’s when all hell broke loose. The doe was only 15 yards from us and took off with the herd fallowing this is when my hunting instincts took over. I stood and swung on the buck as he cut out from the herd as all I could hear was: DAD you shot my goat! I continued hearing this for about the next two or so hours.
