I have used sunflower heads for years and bought a big buddy 3 years ago.  I love the thing.  What I love is that it gives off more heat than a sunflower and keeps your feet warmer(my wife really likes that).  It also doesn't make that annoying hissing sound or burn the living crap out of your fish house or clothes.  You couldn't pay me enough to use a sunflower head again.  I even use it in my boat in the early spring and late fall to warm up my hands.  I have a cab on Polaris RZR and use it to keep me warm while I fish out of it.  I have never had any major issues with mine, but my old man's wouldn't light last weekend.  He used a cotton swab and some alcohol and cleaned the pilot light area and it works good again.

Maybe replace the O2 sensor?

Jet could be plugged up. They are similar to that of an oxy-acetylene torch. There r tools to clean torch tips out that should do the job if plugged up. Make sure u are getting propane to come out the jet. Could check that like u would check a tire for a leak. Soapy water in a spray bottle. Spray end of jet where propane comes out and tune on fuel. If you got anything coming out it will bubble just like a nail in a tire.

My sunflower heater will not stay on and it sometimes starts humming

It will stay lit if I hold in the button but goes out when I release it

Anyone know what is going wrong?

Thermo coupler can get all sooted up and may just need cleaning. Take emery cloth and scuff it up till it is shiny brass again.

Had to pay a repairman $150 one time to do that the the reznor heater in the garage. Heater would fire and run for 1-3 min then shut off. He scuffed it up and now heater runs like brand new.

I'm sure these heaters have a potential to produce carbon Monoxide, however it is very unlikely. They just need to be used with a little care like cracking a few windows or opening a little bit of your zipper door on top. Carbon Monoxide is around 3% lighter than the air we breath. This and the fact that it is usually hot coming from a burning source causes it to rise to the ceiling. Carbon Monoxide is produced because of the incomplete burning of fossil fuels that contain carbon. This means that when propane is allowed to evaporate before it is burned off, carbon monoxide is the result. The main reason this happens is when there is a lack of oxygen present, because oxygen is needed to combust anything. Therefore the fishing buddy heaters are safe for indoors because they shut down before the oxygen level is too low and has the potential to produce CO. Also, propane heaters of this type are usually around 99.9 percent efficient meaning they burn all the fuel that goes through them. Hope that helps, I don't own a Buddy heater yet but I'm planning on getting one.
I still wouldn't trust one while I'm sleeping.

Mine is more like a high pitched scream and will do this for the first 3-4 minutes of running. I light it and let it run while I drill some more holes or it would explode my ear drums. Not sure why it does it, but thankfully it only last for a few minutes. It never goes out on its own though

I agree the thermo coupler need tho be cleaned or replaced, also John R my heater screams alittle when I first start it. i just turn it up to high for a few sec and it will quit and then you can turn it back to low or  whatever setting  you want. see if this helps you always works for my heater.. weird but works

Mine did this. Just had to bend the bracket that holds the thermostat or whatever it is closer to the heat. Now when I light mine I have to hold the plunger in for 7-10 seconds and it stays on.
