Am i the only one that thinks our state needs another Refinery!!! it would create lots of jobs during construction and after costruction. I dont understand why our state officials support shipping our oil out of state rather than a new Refinery! But what the hell we will just keep shipping our oil out of state and trucking our gas back into the state, Yep that makes Sense!!!

Pretty sure we produce more oil than we can use, and pretty certain that the refinery in Mandan can keep up with local demand.  Makes sense to ship one product versus a variety of refined products.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

I guess the WH thinks oil filled ralicars are a better and safer than an a pipeline??

Since obama and warren buffet are buddys,And WB is one of his biggest supporters  and since WB now owns BNSF. Put 2 and 2 together and you will see why the pipelines are being shot down for the time being. IMO

You are 100% correct.    When the floods last spring took out a lot of BNSF tracks that the coal trains used, they were the first to get attention along the MO and Ne state line.

Our refineries are not at full capacity. It costs millions upon millions to build them and then always a risk of future regulation, etc.

Couldnt agree more!  Hit the nail on the head!  Hope we dont have to put up with this assjack for another four years.  Would Hillary been better?  GG, there is room for more refineries but there is TOO much red tape.  Only way to get through it would to have it built on the reservation and would that be the best idea?

I have said for years our State should build a refinery.  We own a Mill and Elevator and a Bank so why not a refinery?  A new one hasn't been built since the 70's and with all the epa regulations probably won't have another one built.  So sad.  When there was a discussion about building one a year or so ago, the refinery in Mandan did a study (imagine that) and it concluded we didn't need another refinery.  Then why are gas prices so high?  Also why is so much diesel coming from out of state and going to the rigs in western ND?  I have a friend that trucks and he hauls diesel fuel out west 5 days a week coming from SD.  Go figure!!

Really?  By who?  I haven't heard a thing about this in the newspapers.

you haven't?  Williams county planning and zoning just approved it a few weeks ago.  I believe it's being built right next to the new rail load out facility that is under construction.  I do believe it is a diesel only refinery though.  which is fine since we burn way more diesel here than gas.

Guess it isn't the first time something has escaped my attention.

We'll see how this plays out, this has been in the works for quite a few years but I think investor confidence has been a big problem as well as red tape I would imagine. I doubt it will be much of a story until the buildings are going up.

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

Interesting view on Obama and Buffet. Buffet getting richer with no keystone pipeline. If that was a republican in that situation we would have holy war.

spot on.  if it was a republican in office the "news-media" would be screaming corruption.

I understand all the pieces are in place and that building is supposed to commence in the spring.  of course there's always something that could delay it but so far I haven't heard there are any road blocks.  A good buddy of mine has been approached to build some of the buildings.

Building a new refinery in the state will not eliminate the need for pipelines.  Instead of crude, finished product needs to be shipped to market, and pipelines are the cheapest way to go.  That is one of the reasons that Fargo has cheaper gas than the cities out west.   We can pipe crude somewhere else or we can pipe gasoline somewhere else.  A refinery can make sense only if there is a cheap way to transport the finished product.
