Missouri River (Upper Portion) - Thursday, June 2, 2011
Little Muddy river outside Williston, everyone is catching lots of northerns, small to 20 lbs. Smelt under a bobber or on the bottom. Caught a couple on top water baits also. Location doesn't matter some shallow some deep.

Misty waters public and private docks are ok to launch as of tonight as well as the Fox Island ramp. The dock was pulled by Bis Parks and Rec from the Grant Marsh launch. Doesn't look like anyone with common sense should use that one as the water is up beyond the sloped portion of the launch and well into the parking lot.

The river has continued to be quite low and flows are also going to be down from last year. Snagging should be good with the low water. Fred Ryckman of the NDG&F spoke at the recent input meeting and suggested it would be a strong early season. They are tagging paddlefish this week and I am waiting on a call back from him to find out what the success has been. It does not look so good for Montana this year as the fish could struggle to get to Intake and could once again spawn closer to the North Dakota border. I will update when I hear back how the tagging is doing. Walleye and sauger activity has been pretty good on the river with the water clean, even after a substantial local rain this past week. The lake also has been fair but we have had some windy days that would be tough on the lake. Paddlefish combos have actually come down this year about ten dollars or better with hooks and weights the same as last year. As you all know we have the best treble hook prices in the region.
Once again if you are planning on staying at a motel book early as it is hard to find rooms here. If there are any avid outdoors folk looking for a job we have openings like everyone else in the Williston area. Looking forward to seeing you all. Andy |

Missouri River (Upper Portion) - Tuesday, August 4, 2009
Went on the river today north of Bismarck. Fairly slow day but didn't get out until 11:30. Caught 4 walleye with biggest being 19". Caught 2 trolling, 1 lindy rigging, 1 jigging. Lost a rod overboard when I was answering natures call so I loaded up the deep diving reef runners and trolled the area for 40 minutes until i lucked out and got my rod back. Could not have been happier since I've had that rod for a whole week and a half. Ha ha. As far as fishing it was about a fish an hour until the clouds went away and sun came out. Then it just seemed to die off. I imagine the fish slid deeper but I couldn't find them after that. All in all, fishing was slow but fun, as usual.

Went out over the Memorial Day weekend with three friends. We went south from fox inland around eagles nest and even further down. Three of us were jigging and one was pulling a lindy with spinner. Both methods seemed to work. Got about half our fish with these methods, the other half came by pulling #7 cranks with the perch color performing the best. On Friday we got 15 and on Saturday we limited out. The fish weren’t big, mostly between 16 to 18 inches. Most difficult part of day is getting boat in at Fox with the ramp being so shallow, but the fishing definitely made it worth the trouble.

I looked at the UPA dock a few days ago and there was still 3 ft of ice on the dock. It might still take a while before they can even push it open. |
