Missouri River System (North Dakota) Fishing Reports
Missouri River (ND Lower Portion) - Tuesday, April 26, 2011
Tried the rifle range yesterday. Water clarity might have been all of 5.2 inches at most. Temp 46. Wow, the lake is high, almost no current. River channel a lot different from last year. Didn't see any fish caught but heard of one or two, but most were skunked trying to fish in the liquid mud.
We heard closer to town the water was much clearer. |

Missouri River (ND Lower Portion) - Monday, April 25, 2011
Nice to be on the water again. The weather broke a little on Saturday but work prevented prime time fishing for me. Part of my time was spent discovering the channel changes again but managed to pull some cranks for a few hours north of the Grant Marsh Bridge, south of Heskett. Caught one nice 28 inch walley and one northern. Lost another large fish with no ID made. Next morning at about 6:30 to 7:30 went out before church caught one 22 in. A lot of boats out there, I am sure many have done much better than I. I believe most are jigging.

Garrison Dam Tailrace - Sunday, April 24, 2011
The wife and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather this morning and we went fishing down at the tailrace. We were out in the boat and threw every thing/ color at them without a single nibble. Tried floaters, twisters, green/white, pink/white, jigs, minnows and even night crawlers. All I can say for the fishing right now is POOP SOUP! I guess I will have to drive all the way to devils lake to catch a fish dinner.

Anyone tried any fishing down by the Beaver Bay area? I had heard that were was still some ice in the bay, not sure if that is still true or not. Heard rest of the river was open. I'm from that area and haven't been back in awhile, but am hoping to get some fishing in when I head back home.

getanet: I don't know anyone that "targets" bass on the Missouri, but they are occasionally caught while walleye fishing (usually strong fish 2 to 3 pounds...some bigger). i would try along rip rap, little bays/tributary mouths, and along deeper quieter waters next to shore...but you probably know more about where bass like to go than I.

Went to Stanton today. The water was very dirty even a couple of miles north of the knife river. Water clarity varied from about 2" to 8". We had no bites and ended the day early.

Missouri River (ND Lower Portion) - Saturday, April 9, 2011
Went out fishing from shore last 2 days now. I have to say I am throwing in the towel for a while. Not even 1 bite at all! I went out to kimble bottems, around the rifle range area, over to mandan side by litte heart bottems, sugar loaf, and by Huff hills area. Fished all day till dark both days, got not even 1 bite at all. Fish just are not even active at all. Nothing, no catfish, no northern, nothing. Water very muddy and a lot of junk floating around. I'm giving up for a couple weeks at least.

Anyone been down by Beaver Bay lately? Was curious if there is enough open water along the shores in the bay across the highway to the east to fish for pikeskies? Also anyone know how far south the ice is off the river? Thank you. |
