Garrison Dam Tailrace - Monday, September 22, 2008 | |
Fished the west side on the rocks again last Friday night til 3AM. Kept about a dozen cats 2-4 lbs and a 10-12 lb northern. You guys need to move to the west side near the yellow painted line. Worms work great but you have to weed through a lot of carp/buffalo/drum/suckers/sturgeon/etc. My buddy used chicken liver and that kept them off his. Seemed to be a lot of 12-14" cats we threw back that night. Bait stealing lil SOBs! lol
Caught a 5 lb drum on a shad rap crank, never done that before. |

Went north again Saturday morning. Pretty slow and the wind sucked. Talked to an FLW guy on Saturday night and he said it was pretty slow down south but the fish they were catching were really nice. He said it was like bumper boats though.

Just about went south Friday morning but decided to try north one more time. Glad I did. We started around 10:00 and tried a few spots north of misty. We put 3 in the box in the first hour. (2 on jigs, 1 on a crank). We moved further north and never picked up another fish until 3:00. We were just about to call it a day and we decided to try one more cranking spot. We picked up our last seven fish in a matter of an hour. Of those seven, four were over 20". Gonna give it another try Saturday.

Fished south of town about 20 miles from 6:00a.m. till about 12:00a.m.caught 1 redhorse sucker, 1 dink eye, and 1 gar. Missed about a dozen dingers. They seem to be bitten extra light. Pretty much had the belly's sucked out of all our minnows every time we checked our poles. Awesome morning though. And that's the first Gar I've personally seen caught.Ugly! Tell you what if it was 3 lbs heavier you'd never see me swim in the river.

PRO V1 - I'm surprised that you haven't hooked into a paddlefish up there before. There are tons of paddlefish from Double Ditch to Wilton. All you can do is chase them down with the boat or break the line.
