Caught this 18.5 lb monster shore fishing under the railroad trestle on the Bismarck side of the river.

Also caught 6 13-15 inchers and 2 over 20 in the morning that we released then went back out in the afternoon with my 5 year old.  Had caught 8 others last monday with 2 over 24 inches that we kept to pickle.

Seem to be hitting on just about anything thrown in the water but 3.5 inch spoons is what we were using since they were cheaper than the other lures we lost to the submerged rocks.

Wow, these fish seem to  be getting bigger with each week that passes!  Spent a lot of time on the river this weekend with some easy limits coming Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Even in the tough weather Saturday we got our fish, it was the slowest of the 3 days but we still managed 10 keepers pretty easy.  Sunday's nicer weather seemed to really make the fish aggressive with our 2 man limit in a couple hours.  Monday was a lot like Sunday with our 15 fish coming in just a few hours.  Most of the fish came on crankbaits in the 8-12 foot range and a few coming on a jig and a minnow, with the bigger ones caught on cranks.  Can't wait to see how the pro's do this week, there should be some impressive weights brought to the scale.  Hope everyone can get out and support this event and good luck to everyone fishing in the FLW Championship!

There is a pretty good bite going up and down the whole system right now, with walleyes getting caught from the tailrace all the way down to the stateline.  I spent quite a bit of time south of Bismarck this past weekend with most of our fish coming on crankbaits, which is a big change from the jig bite we had going last week. All the fish we kept were in the 17-20 inch range with lots of smaller ones and a few pike mixed in, which keeps a person pretty busy. I'm sure a person could still get em on jigs but we decided to go with the cranks to cover some new water and see if we could find a few different spots.  It will be interesting to see what happens this weekend with the Prairie Knights Casino tournament, should be some good weights brought in.  Good luck to everyone fishing in the tournament.

Trolled assorted smaller shad bodied crank baits primarily in 8-10 F.O.W. for the walleyes and 11-14 F.O.W. for salmon and trout, and had a great day. Caught 3 Salmon, all in the 8-10 pound size, 8 walleyes between 17-22", and a HUGE Rainbow Trout.

The trout measured 28.25 inches long. 10.75 inches back to belly, and weighed in at Scott's Bait and Tackle at 16.25 pounds!!!

The good fellows at Fiber Tech Reproductions are already at work making my replica mount, and this one is in the freezer.

Think I might have to go back again soon!

took the boat out for the first time this year north of Bismarck, found several submerged sandbars 1.5 to 2' under the water so beware...they are still out there! Pulled shad raps/salmo hornets and caught our limit of walleyes 14" to 21"...threw back several smaller ones, all looking very healthy.

Never been to the Tailrace; going Thursday night to do some shore fishing. Where would be best to go? And where is this infamous 'honey hole'?

My 5 year old son and I fished the tailrace from shore for a couple hours this morning.  There were so many boats out there, it looked like the scene from Jaws in the marina when they were all after the shark.  There were dead smelt, mooneye, small walleye and catfish all over by the boat launch.  Fish were constantly breaking the surface feeding on the thousands of dead fish.  There were also an unbelievable number of seagulls feeding as well.  My son had a nice walleye about 4 or 5 lbs. on a jig and Gulp minnow, but it goy off right by shore.  We did manage one small smallmouth bass and a very large goldeye.  The goldeye came on a floating jig and smelt that was plucked from the shoreline.  I also rolled what appeared to be a very large paddlefish using a clown colored Rogue.  The 5 year old was excited, I was just glad the hook didn't stick because I would not have wanted to lose it

It was likely a paddlefish that broke you off.  They have been pretty thick in there since the high waters.   I've seen several landed and even more hooked up.

First time out to the tailrace yesterday and had a blast even though the fishing was slow.  Didn't have any idea on how to fish it so we just started pulling cranks in the honey hole down the east side of the river and back.  Had one good fish on in 18ft on a large silver bomber crank but it broke the line, I am pretty sure this was a salmon hit.  Later in the mornin around 11 I hooked into a 9lb salmon using a large gold walleye diver in about 22ft where we were coming up a ledge onto a sandbar.  What a rush that was!  As I was cleaning it I talked with a couple local guys and they said once you catch a salmon you are hooked for life and I think that is the case!  Saw a few walleye caught and a couple nice salmon but the most I heard about was 5 eyes in a boat.

fished my little honey hole north of Bismarck from shore again last night...its where flood waters are flowing across flooded lowlands back into the river ...the entire food chain loves that! the fish are stout (fat!)and aggressive. we caught 11 from shore casting salmo hornet and shad raps, kept 7 from 14 to 21 inches, threw back the fat little 13 inchers, and lost several that attacked the lure as it was coming out of the water. Fishing has been best with cloud cover, low light or wind chop so that they are brave enough to come out of the deep hole up into the flooded shallows (3' to 5' deep) right by the now-submerged shoreline. When the water goes down the hot spot will probably fade away...but the fish are very healthy and will be somewhere waiting to be caught! water is stained, maybe a foot visibility...firetiger was the preferred color last night. blue was the winner the night before...and the 8" northerns are VERY agressive...lol!

Tried shore fishing around sundown for 25 minutes this last weekend north of Bismarck...action was furious anc caught 3 walleyes 14" to 16", fat and aggresive, also lost 3 others (no net). Tried again Sunday at sundown and we caught a drum , 3 northerns and a walleye. All were caught while casting a rapala.
