Yes, use a three-way swivel. Put your weight on about a 12 inch lead and your floating jig on something longer, like 18 inches. That way even if they do tangle the jig will still be free floating 99% of the time as opposed to being wrapped up with the weight.

You will be surprised at how easily the twists that you may get from this setup actually untangle. Usually just twisted as opposed to actual knots.

BTW, I prefer to use 3/4 oz flat weights with my 3-way rigs from shore.

don't be afraid to try just a plain hook and slip sinker setup or w/ a 3 way like allen mentioned. i've caught a good # of walleyes fishing from shore on the missouri the last few years doing the same thing you're doing. later on towards late june and july, try this rig w/ 1/2 to 3/4 of a nightcrawler threaded on a single hook as your setline. you can catch anything on this rig, but will probably pick up some decent eyes also.

Another thing many people fail to realize or maybe just dont think about. The weights that are flat will fall to the bottom and stay put a lot better than round ones. Round weights, like the pinch on ones roll with the current. I use the ones that look like they were a ball and got squashed, flat on both sides. GL

I use a bottom bouncer with a steel liter and a floater attached to it. It's worked the best for me so far.
