Arks qb tosses away possible win and a chance to go top 10. Throws pick after blocked punt to seal loss. The buckeyes choked huge and should have loss!

Man what a game though, not to mention all the passes that went through the hands of WRs that blocked punt went through a couple pairs of hands. Pick it up and take it to the house!!

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

That game did not affect his potential draft status.  His receivers were dropping passes all over the place.  He actually played a decent game.

The money situation for kids coming out of college will be WAY different than the past.  There WILL be a new CBA and it WILL have a rookie pay scale that is far less than what teams have been paying in the past.

Why am I sure?  This is the one single thing that BOTH the NFL players and owners agree on.  They are sick of unproven draft picks getting big bucks.  Those days are over.

Highly doubt that pick will even remotely affect his draft.

Andrew Luck will set the standard this year in the draft. He looked terrific in the Orange Bowl. He will be a franchise player for some team.

Right now, Luck and Gabbert are the two most highly regarded.  Mallet might stay at Ark.  Heck, Luck might stay around too (slight chance) but that would likely be a big mistake.

Locker would have went #1 last year and his status fell but he will still go reasonably high.

Could be 5 QBs in the first round?

mallett did nothing last night....24-47 277yds 2td 1int. yeah his receivers didnt help him but c'mon.  those numbers in a big game with a chance to win in the end and choke. draft stock fell to rd 2 in my book. gotta complete more passes and hes pretty much horrible when he has to leave the pocket.

You are absolutely correct.  I bow to your superior knowledge.

Another example.  Peyton Manning threw a pick 6 in the Superbowl last year.  With it all on the line in the biggest game of all, he CHOKED.  He will never be a Hall of Fame QB and the Colts should just cut him.  What a loser.

I bet the NFL scouts really hate when a QB fires a ball in between a receivers numbers or off both hands.    Their receivers "dropped the ball".   Pun intended.

There are questions about every college QB.  Mallet is no exception.  But, ONE GAME where he played well enough for his team to win is not going to decide anything.  It certainly didn't cost him millions of dollars.  From now on, college QBs, more than most positions will have to earn it on the field.

1.  He might be a head case.  There are some Michigan people saying things about his temperment.

2.  He does have all the physical attributes NFL people are looking for.

3.  Everything regarding the draft is different this year.  The new CBA will include a rookie salary scale that will make it far easier for teams to draft a QB early without needing to worry about hamstringing the franchise for years.  QBs are hard to project in terms of NFL potential.  In the past, that was a huge problem because you had to give first round picks big dollars and it had to be guaranteed money.  That meant a QB better turn out or you set the franchise back big time.  That will no longer be as big of a deal.  You still might waste a pick but it isn't compounded by the salary cap hit that keep hurting you for years.

The owners and the veteran players are sick and tired of hotshot college QBs getting big dollars before they show anything on Sunday.  Both sides agree that the veterans are more entitled to those dollars.  Don't worry though, the rookies won't be working for minimum wage.  They will be well paid.  Just not like it was in the past.

My guess is that "you agree with the star trib blog writer" is a more accurate statement.

If his WR catches the first pass you can add on 70 yards and a TD.  His numbers then look a lot better.  Keep in mind he was playing against a really good defense.

Luck is the best QB prospect since Elway according to the experts.

I put zero stock in a college QB and the NFL.  Luck of the draw in my opinion, pure simple.  The busts seem to outweigh the studs.  Or maybe I just pay attention to the busts more.

Nah, I am a Bears fan, we know all about drafting NFL QBs both top dawgs, sleepers, etc.

Think I have the right to say what I did.  27 different QBs in as many years.  Obviously there are some free agents mixed in but many of those were the considered potential stars once upon a time.

I wish anyone QB shopping a great big bunch of luck.

Tim,
I don't disagree about trying to pick college QBs who translate to the NFL.  It does seem though that more of the highly rated ones are turning out to be successful right away.  Especially the ones who came from pro style college offenses.

Matty Ice took the Falcons to the playoffs as a rookie and now to a #1 seed in his third year.  Big Ben got to the AFC championship as a rookie.  Sanchez was inconsistent as a rookie but was effective overall.  Bradford had the Rams a win away from the playoffs this season.  I'm sure there are more.

Yes there are some successful boys for sure.  I am just bitter.

Bradford, Ryan, Stafford (maybe could), McCoy (I think is going to be good) and maybe that Skelton from Arizona.  He looked kinda like he had some ability and composure.

So yeah, there are success stories.  But many more failures.  Tough position to play, period.

P.S. I meant to say Skelton could be one of those late draft pick successes.
