I am in the proocess of making a couple spearing decoys. I was wondering if anyone here has made them before, and has any tips on weighting and placing the fins on them. I am thinking that will be the trickiest part is getting them balanced and swimming right.

I have made a few in the past, it's best to have a fish tank or something you can test them in. Getting the weight centered is the most crucial, that and the tail. I have a lead pot and just poured a little in at a time until I got the desired "swim" You can also repostion your eye screw for balance and level.

I have been interested in starting to make fish decoys also. I stumbled upon these articles last night and they sound pretty detailed and straight forward. Enjoy!

Can anyone recommend any other good sites that have patterns? I have never made one before, but I am planning on doing my first decoy very soon.

Here is the first decoy I made. I made it similar to a decoy I bought. I just used craft paint from wal-mart on this one. I used about 7 coats of spar urathane to finish it. I have always had good luck with pink but have never came across a pink decoy so I figured I would give it a try.
