Starting casting my own jigs this winter. Paying fourty cents for a jig is just nuts. With all the pike around a guy can go through $5 worth of jigs in an outing. Anyone else been making there own?

Ive picked some up at Cabelas for around 10 cents or less. Just gotta keep an eye out. I believe making jigs is about 10 cents at the cheapest.

I don't make them, but I paint my own.  I can buy plain round lead head jigs in 1/8th oz for about 5 cents each.  The paint is cheap enough and it's kind of fun to catch a fish on one of your own artistic capabilities.  Though I don't know why I can only catch bullheads on my creations?????  For some really interesting colors, I use old nail polish from the ladies in my family.  Hope this helps.

The thing I like about making them is for equal money as buying them plain, you can put a better hook in them and mix colors and experiment a little. It's a fun hobby and the overal quality is higher.

KDM go with the powder coating, way faster and for 5 bucks you can do hundreds of jigs with only 2 oz of paint.

I have trouble getting the paint to dry evenly.  When I hang the jigs the paint pools at the head and makes the head of the jig oblong.  I tried dabbing the heads on paper towels and that was a complete disaster.  How do you get around gravity??

KDM....I'm assuming you are talking about when you cure them? If not your putting on too much paint.

I built a fluid bed, google it you'll see several types to build for about 10 bucks. That puts the paint on a lot thinner and more evenly. When I cure them I do it with the jig upright. You don't have to cure them if you don't want to, but the paint is much harder and durable than what you get in the store.....toster oven $25.

Thanks for the info.  I'll let my google fingers do the walking.
