Good option for Peterson who fumbles close to his 5 yard line.  At least LT can run that far without dropping it!

Should have never let Taylor go!  Just don't understand it....he knew the Vikes system and was a damn good down hill runner who didn't fumble and we send him to the Bears!  I'm sure Tim is grinning ear to ear.  I would think LT is going to want a pretty big salary....but either way the Vikes need a good back up running back now and LT would be as good as any.

Posted by guns4ever.  Thought we'd try to keep one thread.

"Adrian Peterson's production through his first three NFL seasons gives him a chance to one day be considered Hall of Fame material. By the end of the week, there is a good possibility Peterson will be playing in front of a guy who appears to have a place in Canton, Ohio, already locked up.

Longtime San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson is expected to visit with the Vikings on Thursday, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, and if an agreement on playing time and money can be reached, he could be a Viking shortly thereafter.

Tomlinson, who will turn 31 on June 23, has been identified as the Vikings' top choice to take over the third-down role that Chester Taylor held until he signed with the Chicago Bears last week. Tomlinson was let go by the Chargers after nine seasons late last month and this will be his first known visit.

The NFL's MVP in 2006, Tomlinson is eighth on the league's career rushing list with 12,490 yards and is second in rushing touchdowns (138) and third in total touchdowns (153). Tomlinson has been an iron man for much of his career and, not surprisingly, has started to show the effects of the punishment he has taken since being the fifth pick overall in the 2001 draft.

Tomlinson missed two games early in 2009 because of a sprained ankle and finished with career lows in rushing yards (730), carries (223) and receptions (20). It marked the first time in his career that Tomlinson failed to rush for 1,000 yards.

While Tomlinson would like to remain a starter, that job might not be available to him -- at least with a competitive team. Tomlinson never has won a Super Bowl ring and, much like with Brett Favre this past season, he could be attracted by the opportunity to join a franchise that is expected to make another run at the title in 2010."

I think it is a great fit. Yes, I am a huge LT fan. I don't think he is concerned about making money as he took a pay cut to stay with the chargers last year. Is he going to play for the league min. no, but why should he. He can run, catch, pass the ball and like you said he doesn't fumble. I think this is a great fit for the vikes and LT. I also think this would be good for AP as well. They need to keep a good back up on the team to try to extend AP's career. This is something LT didn't have in SD early in his career. If they get him I don't think they will miss chester at all.

I can roll with LT, however I'd have rather kept Taylor.  We'll see what happens I guess....

I'm just glad they didn't pursue Westbrook.

Little,

Who in the world wouldn't have picked that?  It was between Jones (obvious no), Westbrook or LT.  There really only is one logical choice.

Washed up in san diego, lost two steps, ran like he had a yeast infection last year. Yeah!, I guess he would be a great pickup. he made a career out of being quick, he lost his quickness, I dont get the hype.

Besides the obvious age difference and the fact that LT is declining....what is the difference between LT & AP? Yeah LT may hold on to the ball better...for now. AP did a good job of catching the ball out of the backfield last year, has WAY more power than LT between the tackles. And at this stage in his career, LT is way slower than AP. So what would the big gain be?

I'm sure the Vikes will work hard on AP to get his fumble problem figured out (ala Tiki Barber a number of years ago). One of the reasons why Chester did so well was because he's the perfect 'change of pace' back for AP. I don't understand why the Vikes want LT because when they bring him in, the 'change of pace' will mean slower and weaker.

Work on his fumbles.  They have done that for the past 3 years.  He is a fumbleholic, can't fix that.  All I heard during the preseason and first half of the regular season was "how hard of a hand shake he has, just image the grip on the ball"  I got so sick to my stomach about that.
As for AP being in the Hall of Fame - NEVER - won't be around the NFL long enough.
Queens should have gotten rid of AP while his stock is high, kept Chester, moved him to #1 back and still brought in someone, maybe not LT, but Jones would complimented them well.
Doesn't matter who they have as a back, if Farve don't come back they will finish 3rd in the NFC North, behind the Bears and the NFC North champs GB.  And no i am not a Packer fan, only when they play the Queens.

are you guys saying chester was/is as fast as AP???? AP did not catch the ball well out of the backfield last year. How was chester the perfect change of pace? Because he can run and catch the ball out of the backfield? Yes, LT has lost a step, but he was also running behind an O-line that was terrible. Sproles, which we all know is fast had an average of 3.7yd/carry and no one is says he lost a step, the chargers are paying him 7mill this next year, for those numbers.

I will give you stats on 2 RB,
will be 31yrs old this  year, last yr had 3.6 yd/carry
will be 31yrs old this year, last yr had 3.3 yd/carry
One of the above ran behind a good o-line. The first one is Chester, the second LT. I think LT can make up .3 yd/carry average behind a better o-line. Plus I think LT is a better pass catcher then chester.

Watch, everytime AP carries the ball next year and doesnt fumble, he will be "cured". Than, crunch time will come and OOooops!, When you have a history of fumbling in the NFL, look out. The NFL feeds on a weakness like no other sport. He most certainly will break a few big runs next year because tacklers will be so focused on ripping the ball loose he will break the tackle for big plays. however, he most certainly will be targeted on every single carry the rest of his career. More importantly you will find him on the bench in the fourth quarter of close games when you need your star players the most. that is the real problem with his fumbling issue, he wont be trusted at crunch time. How could you trust him? would you put the game in his hands with less than eight minutes left? Again?

I think the hype isn't really hype.  More of a sigh of relief they can get someone that would fill in okay on "change of pace" downs.  LT with some limited carries could probably still be pretty quick at times.

Look at it this way if they sign him they at least have something for a "1-2" punch.  Otherwise, who else would they get?

I do agree with Tim, westbrook was not an option. TJ was 3rd in the AFC rushing last year, is he really going to sign with a team and be the back up??? I wants to be the man and get paid and why shouldn't he? Their only options are LT or let Albert Young take over the back up spot. I also agree that favre has to return or all of this doesn't matter.

LT might be a decent fit for MN. Could be interesting having those two major personalities trying to share carries. Would suit Vikings well to maybe look in the draft and would be a great way to bring up a young RB, situational running behind a phenomenal back like Peterson.

I don't want the Viking to get rid of AP.  I want to see the fumbles continue .  It would suck if Yo Adrian didn't fumble because he is pretty good and there wouldn't be much to make fun of.  Especially since he seems to be okay on 3rd downs.  Not sure if he can really block all that well compared to Chester though.  He can catch the football when needed.  That was an improvment I was most impressed with.

Was this meant for me?
If so i am simple stating that if he has another year of leading ALL running backs with fumbles, he won't be worth a dime and you will be stuck paying his bills while he sits on the bench.

Is MN running a retirement home instead of a NFL team?
