Lowrance 520C Temp Reading

Had something funny happen this weekend, my temp reading was acting very funny on my 520c this weekend.  It will read fine for a little while, then read erraticaly, with the reading varrying from 20 degress to 99 degrees then finally the temp display just goes away.  If I unhook the "sonar" cable at the back of the unit and then reattach it, the temp does the same exact thing.  I am thinking I have two solutions:

1.  bad cable termination leading to unit, replace transducre assembly.

2.  Software update

any other ideas?

That's what I thought, I think I'll swap it out this weekend.  I'll connect the new transducer up and see if the temp works properly, if it does, then I know the issue.
