It is tough, very tough driving on darling.  take two trucks and drive smart.  some trails are deep and full of "Water".   we kept one in five, perch.  They are getting smaller as the season goes to spring.  Be smart, come and go  in packs and PLEASE do not Park or fish on the Trail.  Northerns are small but steal tackle all the time.

went out for alittle while today north of landing 3 ,3miles up. jigged the firetiger chubby darters and perch really hit those hard did matter if i had a live minnow or not.kept nine, 9- 11 inch perch . only walleye  of the day wasnt hooked good and spit the hook out and managed to get down the hole. had two northerns on at the same time .never had that happen before  at first i thought it tangled onto the other line until i decided to reel the one up and see and the first northern swam up the hole and on the ice he was only a 3 pounder and then i felt the other one tugging on the other pole so i knew i had two on that one ended up being 2 lbs.

Went out tody from noon to five and things were really slow. Iced the ocasional dink walleye and one decent sized perch. Used minnows and waxworms jigging off the bottom. Didn't really mark alot of fish either. Had a pair of tip-ups out for northerns with smelt on and did not even get a flag. We fished north of landing three. I measured 13" of ice in all of the holes we drilled.

I fished Darling on Wenesday and struck out. Marked a lot of fish but could not get them to bite. Launched out of landing there and worked the west shoreline to the bouys. I tried trolling cranks, and crawler harnesses both deep and shallow with no luck. The water temp was 64.0 to 64.3, wind out of the west at 15-20 mph.

Finally got out on Lake Darling for the first time in 2 years.  Just got the boat out of being serviced, so mainly went out to check everything out.  Everything checked out fine, lots of water up there which is really good.
We trolled crankbaits from Landing 3 down to the boueys on the west side of the lake and followed the boueys across to the east side and back.  Lots of floating grass and weeds from the high wind the day before on the east side,  made trolling a pain so went back and worked the west side.  Fished mostly in 12 - 14 ft of water in the cleanest (weed free) water we could find.  Boated 7 nice walleyes, lost another and also got two northerns.  Not too much boat traffic on the lower end, but it was a monday, only about a half dozen other boats out.  I think the evening bite would have been much better.  Fish are fat and healthy looking, and relatively easy to find.   The lake is pretty clean.  Access is very good at the new east ramp, landing 3,  landing one is good if you don't need a dock to assist getting the boat in and out.  The refuge people  are working on getting a new dock for landing one.  Haven't heard about the upper end of the lake in a while.  Tight lines...
