Looking to buy a pistol..any suggestions?

I'm looking for a good accurate pistol. I want a semi auto. I don't want to spend over 500. I don't know much about pistols so any information or suggestions would be very helpful! I will be carrying it while hunting so I don't want something big and bulky.
Thanks

Sig Sauer or Glock would be my 1st and 2nd choices, I own both. Might have a tough time finding the sig in that price range.

Have fun, practice, practice, practice.

Usually with guns; Good accurate and cheap don't go hand in hand...  Many time you get what you pay for, but I guess the biggest question is what caliber are you looking for??

Wont touch a Glock... but thats just me.
I'll take a Ruger or a Springfield XD if Im looking at a polymer type weapon.
as far as a 1911 flavor (obviously more than 500... but anyways) Ruger is releasing a 1911 variant... and Remington has the R1 out.. both should be around 650-700.

After shooting one recently, I'm a huge fan of the Springfield XD.

.40 or .45?  Is the Ruger P90 a good gun?

I had a KP345 in 45acp(the kp is the polymer variant).. that thing was a shooter,, but dear lord did it have recoil.
Got rid of it for a Kimber Tactical Custom II.... that pistol is one hell of a shooter.

There are some options out there.  Go for what fits your hand best.  A friend recently bought a Ruger SR40, shot well, accurate, fit nice and well within your price.  My only gripe with it was the trigger was stiff.  Glock is a fine choice and my personal favorite, though I have many favorites.
Yeah, it's kind of like that.

I'd spend $250-$300 on a 22 pistol from Ruger or Browning and the rest on ammo so I could afford to learn how to shoot it.

I had 9mm Hipoint, American made Lifetime warranty...can get em for $150. Would serve the purpose for what you need it to. Being accurate with pistols past 50yds is hard anyways...that 9mm is just fine, they also have .40 and .45...9mm barely kicks, every bullet on your target is one that counts, dont get a .45 and not hit a thing. my 2 cents

I have a $150 piece of junk HiPoint.  Can't hit a damn thing with it.  I had to use my $400 Taurus revolver to take the CCW test.

I loved mine and I've shot a lot of diff types and caliber hand guns....everything from .22 to .45, glock, sig, kimber etc. I think for the money you cant beat a Hipoint, they are durable too...just an opinion though.

I would buy a glock .40. unless you are shooting competition or something like that. they are reliable, high capacity, fairly cheap priced.
Hunt with your kids, not for them!

I really like my Springfield XD.  One stoppage in about 2,000 rounds and that was due to faulty brass.  Mine is in .40 - - really like the caliber, but ammo for the 9's is more reasonable.  I think you can still come in under $500 for one.  Watch the sales....

I just finished shopping for mine about two days ago.

I really like my P226R Sig Sauer.  I replaced my kimber Ultra CDP II.  Visiting with people from three different branches of law enforcement the brands, Sig Sauer, Glock, And Smith and Wesson kept coming up.  The sig fit me the best.

XD 40 for sure, it seems to know where I am aiming.  I have one of the early ones and probably will never sell it.  I like the features such as a exposed fireing pin (when it is cocked back) and the chambered round indicator, that sticks up when its loaded.  you can feel both of these in the dark very easily.  But, if you know anyone that has a few, ask them to shoot their guns, and that will help you know what to get.

Sig would be top choice, as mentioned probably out of your price range. I would go with a Springfield XD or XDM if you can afford it. Make sure you look at caliber and barrel length requirements if you plan on hunting with it.

The best thing a High Point can be used for is an anchor while fishing.  Heavy, and about the most unreliable gun I have seen at the range.

.45 ACP does have a lot of recoil, and is thus innaccurate.  Not.

I only hit 3 for 3 striped gophers with mine last week.  i did miss a skunk, but he was running, and it somehow jammed....I think an empty ricocheted of my side mirror and flew back in the chamber...it was weird.

And a .45 will shoot through a washing machine, a 9mm wont.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.
