Im just wondering what some of you people use in your food plot where you can't get equipment to. I got about a quarter of an acre where i can't get anything to, and i just want to try a food plot for fun this summer. I've looked at Evolve Harvest's Throw n Grow. anyone have sucess? this will be mainly used for deer. thanks!

I'd try to put something there that isn't normally found there.  For instance, if corn, soybeans, and alfalfa are normal, the turnips would be a great choice.  If it's all beans, then corn would be an option.  I'd try to give them something different nutritionally to get them to stop in for a bite.  Good luck!

I would start by spraying round up this spring with a hand sprayer.  Chemical cost a lot less if you buy were the farmers buy. Last year $32 for 2.5 gallon jug.  I do spray a larger spot than that by using a hand sprayer.  This will get rid of the grass and other plants.  Need to spray more than once.  Depends on how strong you mix.  In about a week to two you will know how well it works.  I do add 2-4D if you have some plants that round up does not kill.
I would need to look at my sprayer but belive I used 4-5 ounces in a 2.5 gallon sprayer.  It could of been a stronger mix.
I also feel it depends on what is next to you being grown.  I will assume this is an open area with sun.
I would be high on turnips, radishs, rape or canola.  Any plant of that family.  If it rains after you spread they will sprout and grow.  canola is round up ready if you want to continue to spray.  Get this seed from a seed dealer.  Farmer or elevator for canola.
For me I plant these crops in september or late august.  Deer will eat on the flowers from canola so that is why you would plant late.
Corn and soybeans i feel would be hard to get a decent crop planting this spring.  Need to try and get these seeds into the ground and they will not compete with the grass that is now growning. Maybe next year if you get the ground in shape.
You need to get rid of the grass in order for your plants to grow.  Once I have killed the grass i have used a walk behind tiller to work the ground and plant corn and soybeans.  Again larger spots than what you have.
But needed at least a year on killing what is there before the tiller works.
Wish white clover was round up ready.  I understand they will again release alfalfa that is round up ready.
If you plan to go longer term gets some fruit trees with plastic tubes to plant from the FSA office.  db

Whitetail institutes no-plow has worked real well. If its a place deer hang around in winter id throw alfalfa, corn, or soybeans with it to let stand for winter.
