Lead Shot Ban for Road Hunting

I see the Commission is considering a proposal for banning lead shot from road hunting.  I did not see it anywhere else on here, so If I am doubling up I apologize.

This will be considered at the April G&F Commission Meeting.

Personally, I don't agree with it and I have contacted the commission.  I would encourage all to do so, either way they feel about it.

I totally agree with you about using lead shot for road hunting.  The only thing steel shot does is CRIPPLE  birds!!!  Anyone who has hunted knows for a fact that steel does not have near the knock down power as lead..  Using steel for road hunting is just going to cripple the bird farther out onto private land, thus making the land owner more upset because you are further out on his land and so on and so on.  Private shooting preserves should be the ones that have to shoot steel if the game fish and parks are worried about lead poisioning.  Those fields get hammered on day after day.  Plus I think there are quite a few released birds that just plain get up in closer range so steel isn't that big of a handicap.

Links to all their emails there.

And yes I agree that steel is not nearly as good as lead, especially at longer ranges.

This is a very interesting topic of discussion.  If this grabs hold in South Dakota of all places it will be hard for the rest of the Midwest not to follow in suit.  We are over-extending fear I'm afraid.  Hopefully, the right thing is done.

I disagree with this for the same reasons may other users have already mentioned.
