Went out on saturday and got there late due to road construction on 49. I trolled around by the damn for awhile and got a few good bites but no fish in the boat. went to move to another spot and the water pump on the boat motor went out and had to limp to the dock with the trolling motor. it was a perfect day had i not had motor problems.

Well it was a slow day, went to rattlesnake point and worked the whole shore line. The water is getting muddy and starting to turn, it has also gone up over a foot in the past 3 weeks. This time of the year the water starts going down and its tough to get your boat in, now the water is so high you don't have to back down very far, and there is no more beach area anywwhere. Heard the fish are still biting on the other side by the tailrace.

Was out friday night, saturday all day, and sunday until mid afternoon at the elgin site fishing from shore. Used nightcrawlers and ended the 3 day excursion with 9 keeper walleyes (14-17"). Ran out of crawlers on sunday or could have fished longer. Best luck was from 12-4pm. Averaged a bite every half hour or so. Caught a perch, white bass, and a sucker as well. Boat traffic was heavy on the 4th, but it didn't affect the fishing at all.

FRIDAY: got up at about 4 30 and was in the water at about 6. It was a windy/very brisk morning. We headed to a favorite spot by rattle snake island but the wind was just to much. Headed to the other side and first pass through dad caught a perch about as long as this wooooooooorrrrrrdddddddddddd. Next pass through i managed to catch a nice 18 inch walleye, then on the way back through there must had been a school of perch because it wasn't a hard bite but you could definately feel it. All i can say is "baiting stealing son of a guns!" Well I managed to catch another 17 inch walleye and we decided to call it a day since we had plans for the day. |

My 8 year old son and I went out on Saturday morning for just a couple hours. We trolled along the north shoreline, near cabin area 3. Eventually we got to an area not that far from Crappy Creek where we obviously stumbled upon a school of walleye. We caught 6 good-sized walleye in about a 45 minute span, called it a day and went back to the cabin for a feast. We were using crankbaits with double treble hooks. Not sure what depth they were at.

despite the beautiful day, fishing was very slow for the brief time we fished. The water is still quite stained, it does look to be clearing up a bit towards the back of the lake. We just used crawlers with chartreuse spinners so perhaps something else may work better.4-14' of water, also be prepared to bring up alot of sticks and weeds

Went out to the river today. Me and my dad went out, he caught a walleye at the river. It was very dirty, as the lake is starting to clear up. We moved to the lake to shore fish and the first fish was a nice perch. After that all we caught was a 9 pound catfish, 2 bullheads, and a drum. Did anyone else go out this weekend?

The best way to catch fish below the Heart Butte Dam is to float the Heart with a canoe and pitch a jig and minnow in any pools 3 feet or greater. I've do this about once a year and always catch plenty of walleye and smallmouth bass. The problem is that it is very difficult to find access to put your canoe in or take it out. The landowners along the Heart River aren't generally known to be the most friendly to strangers. We haven't had a lot of luck right below the dam and have much better luck downstream after a few bends.

I was just wondering how the heck do you fish the river beneath heart butte? We went there the other day and didn't catch a thing, and got snagged at least 15 times!

we got 4 white bass and 1 walleye pulling spinners the water is still stained but it is getting better. maybe next week

the water is still quite stained hopefully it clears up before it turns green. most of the other boats i saw were pulling cranks. but i think fishing at this time is pointless will try again next week

Good luck with that. I hope the water has cleared up. Was out there last weekend and the water looks like chocolate milk. I fished hard for two days and tried everythiing I could think of and managed only one white bass.
