Be extremely careful!
Went out this morning to Koehlers. Last week there was 10 inches here after the 60 degree weather. Long story short, walked out about 25 yards and fell through "I was kind of in shock, since I was no where near a pressure ridge". Luckily I had hold of my Otter sled/shelter rope and was able to pull myself out since I was alone and there was no one out. The two large ice houses I saw out on the ice at Schatzs coming in gave me a very false sense of security, so take a spud bar if you do plan on going out! Evidently it was wide open water there just a day or two ago so be careful. There is no way I would take an atv on the lake for a long time either. |

Went out this morning trying to go to Shatz Point but the wind opened a huge hole so there was no fishing on ice over there. Went to the Crappie Creek area and had good luck 20-35 FOW. Lots of people out today. Most of our luck came with the bait barely hovering above the bottom. 3 guys came home with 11 eyes and one jumbo perch that was a good 13".

slow at first, nibbles for a majority of the day, the old take and spit, like the fish were sucking on the bait, but wouldn't take it. We did get some good fish that bit hard, after drilling many holes to get to deeper water. Marked fish between 17'-42' deep. Lots of people out in many places on the lake. |

Went out yesterday just to see if anyones was doing any good. Talked to a guy who only had one northern on the ice. He said the ice was aound 12" thick and the bite was very slow. Nobody is driving on the ice, but looks like everyone I saw was within 50-100 feet of shore. Good Luck!

Fished Tschida on Fri./ Sat.
Friday- Fished the spillway into the river trying to chase that state record Buffalo...they weren't biting on anything. I had soft, artificial carp bait under a bobber, tried to snag them w/ trebble's, casting cranks...nothing. They were there, saw a bunch of nice sized ones but they weren't going after anything. Saturday- Fished with my sister-in-law's brother. Got on the water at about 6:30am and fished till about 11am. Dragged bottom bouncers for a while in a couple different spots (15-20 fow). Got a few small walleyes and a couple white bass. Then we went deep into this bay and was pitching a buck tail w/ a spinner on. I had just recently caught a little hammerhandle northern when, a couple casts later up againts the banks I got another strike. The fish took a couple different runs and told my partner that it must be another small pike. I get it up to the boat to see a 17" walleye! That was fun, caught it in about 3 fow. All in all, I had a great time. |

I posted on another thread as well, but I saw the guy catch and land this fish. Granted it was a bullalo, it was still pretty neat. I was snapped off about 4 times w/ walleye gear with these things hittin Raps and spoons and just screamin' off line going down stream till my line snapped. I'm going that way again this weekend and will be prepared w/ 50lb braid and a heavy rod/reel. looking forward to it. Headed from bismarck to Tschida on saturday. Woke up early to a beautiful morning excited to fish. About 5 miles from Glen Ullin, i look in the mirror and my trailer tire is about to fall off. Crept our way to Fitteres service station with the Napa attached. All the employess and Cordell imediately got to helping us and fixxing it for me. Including walking back and fort a block away to make sure we had the right parts and tools. Very accomodating and great group of people. Thanks guys. If anyone makes there way through Glen Ullin and needs bait, parts, or snacks stop in to Fitterers great people, plus they got an awsome make your own sub sandwche bar. Yumm! After about an hour spent changing both assemblies we made our way to the lake. My first trip to the lake. What a gem. Fished until about 8 pm and caught a lot of fish. A ton of 13 inchish walleys, a bunch of snot rockets up to 8 pounds, and some white bass. ME and the partner did bring home 7 nice eyes ranging from 16 to 20 inches. Also caught a healthy one at 24.5" that we put back for another day. 5 of the 7 keepers and the big one let go were trolling craks in 10 to 15 feet of water. The set up for most fish was by far a lindy/bottom bouncer with spinner and crawler. Non stop action with that. Minnows were minninmal, and jigging gulp was a not much better. With the river a mess Tschida is my new favorite place to fish

maybe you don't know how to fish, but i've been catching 18" walleyes all spring long. Everybody needs to get out and take advantage of this.

When you say at the 15" mark what you must mean is 12.5" to 13.5" mark. Don't BS everyone on the size of the fish. There has been very few walleyet 15 'this year and that tournament is a good example of that. Get a tape measure that starts from zero instead of two inches, and youll see that the fish your catching are only 13" not 15".
