Thanks for the info percheye.  I'll definitely try it sometime within the week and post with any success.  I do have some tackle already in the box that'll work, but it won't hurt to buy the girlfriend some valentines and tell her that I had no idea it was already in there.  Fresh caught dinner always makes her happy.

sxmi,
you might want to try right in the town of Fort Yates at the boat ramp.  Go east from HWY into town and take a left when you are close to river, ramp is on north end of town.  The channel comes pretty close to that side.  I'm hearing good reports from Cattail Bay but you have to go about 3/4 mile or more to get to the channel if memory serves.  Yates puts you directly across from Cattail but it's not nearly as far to find the lip.  Check Google earth, they have awesome low water pictures.  BTW thanks to Oahe Guides, nice work and thanks for sharing.

As far as tackle goes try a buckshot rattler tipped with minnow head or a chubby darter with the vex.  Silver and whatever should be good based on the earlier report of baby white bass in stomachs.  Good luck and welcome to Bismarck.

Thanks eye4.  I don't have a sled, but what I do have is a portable house and a pair of snowshoes.  Sounds like no one is venturing out too far with a pickup as I read back on the forum's posts.  The last blast of snow couldn't have helped either.   Is there any place where a guy could park and walk out?

Hello,

I have never fished the north end of Oahe before and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to point me on where to go, lake access for a pickup, and maybe some advice on presentations.  I recently moved to Bismarck and I was wondering if my ice tackle box, which is equipped with mostly small jigs for Devils Lake, would have anything in it that would work down there.  I was planning to head down there to fish sometime within the next week. I talked my old man out of the portable and the auger.

Any advice on where to explore, what to watch out for, would be greatly appreciated.

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Monday, February 8, 2010
Well, it was a fun weekend fishing Lake Oahe once again.  The upper part of Lake Oahe on the North Dakota side has some great walleye fishing  to be had and will only get better as nicer weather patterns persist through the late winter.  We were able to sneak out Friday afternoon for an evening bite, but it was a lack there of.  It certainly wasn’t for the lack of fish in the area though.  We had the vexies down along with the underwater camera and walleye were there, just not active.  Moved to a different spot Saturday afternoon and finally found a good group of fish hanging around the old flooded weeds and trees near a channel break.  You had to be either on top of the weeds or right off the edge of them for the nicer fish.  The deeper the depth and the further you got away from the weeds and trees, the smaller walleye wouldn’t leave you alone.  Between three of us we must have caught and released around 35-40 walleye while keeping 8 nice keepers between 15-20 inches and released one that went around 25-26 inches I’m guessing.  Didn’t measure as we took a quick pic and put her back. Click here to see a photo.  We caught a slew of 8-12 inch walleye along with some nice perch.  Had action on the vexies all afternoon.  Sunday morning, we were set up by 8:30am and wanted to get some good fishing before the wind picked up.  We fished till 11:30 and kept 9 nice fish and another giant.  Click here to see a pic.  Same spot, same presentation.  A lot of the fish that were cleaned had baby white bass in them.

Click here to see pics from the weekend.

Access is good from the ramp to the mouth and that's about as far as you're going to make it with a 4WD truck.

Does any body know the access at Beaver Bay? Wondering if you can get out in a 4 wheel drive pickup? I heard a farmer opened the ramp up and path on the lake to every perminet house. Wondering if that is true or not? I was out before the last two storms and have heard controversal reports. I would like to go this weekend but don't want to get down there and find its in accessable by vehical. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Monday, February 1, 2010
Fished the Langliers and Pollock area this past weekend on Lake Oahe.  Fishing was fair and could have been a little better.  There’s a lot of fish in certain areas, just not real active at times. The electronics always had action, which made the entire day of fishing interesting.  When fish did hit, most hit while coaxing them with electronics.  Dead rods did produce a few fish, but jigging was by far the method of choice.  Again, all year classes are being caught with a lot of big walleye and nice sauger and saugeye.  Northern pike, catfish, lake herring and eel pout were also on the menu.  Other groups of anglers were out and some had better luck than us and some not as good.  I will hand it to the some groups.  It was cold as heck on Saturday and seen a lot of guys moving around, fishing outside and braving the elements.  But then again, that’s another reason why some of them did so well.

Mobility is still limited to snowmobile and did see a lot of guys that were able to use four-wheelers.  The snow is fairly compact so they’re able to drive over the top of the snow for the most part.  Ice conditions remain good for the most part with a few slush spots, but not bad.

We’ll be back at it this weekend, so keep checking back for another Lake Oahe fishing report.

Ven. Duck, I'll be going down to the cabin tomorrow afternoon, which is just down from Beaver Bay, I'll know more than.  Last I seen, it was difficult, but the snow could have hardened from the wet and warm weather.  The soonest I can let you know would be Sunday night or Monday morning.  If you venture down before then, best of luck.  We'll be out with snowmobiles, more then likely fishing south of Beaver.

maddog22, are people driving across river from East to West side at Beaver Bay, what they usually call the casino crossing? Just wondering if a guy can drive down that channel at Beaver to get out on river with a pickup? Thanx
Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Friday, January 29, 2010
Heading to Beulah later this afternoon for a surprise birthday party for my dad (I hope he doesn’t read this, he’s got a busy day so I think I’m safeJ) Than, I’m hoping to have my brother-in-law weld one last piece which will complete my hitch on my snowmobile.  By the way, the clam tow hitch does work for the Frabil RangerXL Twin.  Still having a heck of a time finding the travel cover so I’m going to try something else.  Saturday morning I’m going to get up and let the nephew ride the snowmobile, than I’m going to sneak down to the cabin for some afternoon fishing and will be at it all day Sunday as well.  So expect a report Sunday night or Monday morning.  The weather forecast for the Lake Oahe region seems to be somewhat reasonable for the weekend with light winds, that’s a good thing.  For more information, visit Lake Oahe Fishing Guides.
Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Last weekend brought bad weather to much of the area and didn’t get out, nor do I know of many people that were out.  There will be guys on the water this week and weekend.  This upcoming weekend should be a good weekend to get around on the ice with a decent weather forecast as it looks.  Mobility still remains difficult and pretty much limited to a snowmobile or ATV with tracks.  I’m not saying that you can’t make it around with a four wheeler as I haven’t tried it.  If you do try with a four wheeler, I would make sure you have chains.  For all fishing reports on Lake Oahe and the Missouri River, visit www.lakeoaheguides.com.
